Replaces innings from Stroman and likely similar results

Stro had his Dr Jykle and Mr Hyde results last season so avg results was meh

Signing provides hope that Jed isn’t simply leave roster holes open to start the season
Why so pessimistic about the signing, Rok?
I really hope Giants don't go all in for Bellinger. If Cubs got him, I'd be pretty happy.

Have you met him? lol

He won’t be an ace, but my guess is a hopefully a 3.

I don’t hate the signing, but he’s at best a mid-rotation SP. Going to need to see other moves to improve the offense and bullpen before this offseason is saved. Also it sounds like this is just a 2 year deal with a series of opt-outs.

If pitches similarly to Senga, id be very happy. But mostly agree, it’s a nice signing but isn’t a wow move.

I’d be thrilled if he pitched at Senga’s level, but if he does then he’ll probably walk after year 2. Anyway, who knows what made other teams hesitate to offer him a better deal, so maybe Jed did ok in this instance?

He’s already30 so walking after a few years isn’t necessarily a bad thing either.

I'm sure they're hoping at least one or two of our pitching prospects will be ready to take a spot in the rotation by the time he walks...
It'll be interesting to see what the next move is. If he stays healthy, this is probably a slight improvement over Stroman, since he was basically non-existent in the second half of the season. But we're still down a bat. So even getting Bellinger back brings us back to what -- 86 wins, maybe? Hard to quantify what Counsell brings in terms of added wins. Hopefully Jed has a plan that makes this team a legit playoff contender instead of just hoping to squeak in...

I'm guessing he's hoping to add Hoskins at 1B and that he can have a bounce back season and then pray that PCA can hit major league pitching and take over in CF. That feels like a very Jed move, but we'll see.
I like the rotation to be honest. I think it's pretty solid.
That’s a good deal for the Cubs. Kudos to Jed on this one.
Apparently been living in Chicago since December?
