I actually lost a little bit of respect for Girardi this season. How do you play a guy with such a shitty statline EVERY FUCKING DAY? At some point what's best for the team has to trump this yearlong circus. I suppose the Yanks system is so bad that a better alternative just wasn't available, but enough already with the endless lionizing. Yeah, he was good and a marketer's dream. His time is over.

Derek Jeter is retiring?

You don't think Girardi was told to keep Jeter in the lineup? How many butts did Jeter put in the seats this year?

Keep him in the lineup, sure, but bat him second? That's what I don't get.

Further evidence on the ridiculousness of WAR: According to Baseball Reference's calculation of WAR, Jeter ranks 20th all-time in offensive WAR. 20th.
Ernie Banks ranks 86th.

A lot, I hope.

Soooo.....Jeter won the game for the Yankees tonight. Hmmm.....
Signature.

The Jeter love fest has annoyed the crap out of me all year as I've mentioned many times here. I like him, everyone does, but good lord was this overkill only because of the NY media. And what happened at Wrigley was particularly dumb to me.
BUT, that was awesome tonight. Good for him, such a cool moment and I couldn't be happier for the guy and for his hardcore fans. Very cool moment!

It was nice of the O's to groove all of those fastballs for Jeter...

Tranmell is going to manage the team for the last 3 games. How dumb is that?

Here's the best part of that story: Gibson was fired by LaRussa, whose A's lost to Gibson's Dodgers (including game one from Gibson's famous HR) in the 1988 World Series. LaRussa then installed Dave Stewart, a pitcher on that A's team, as the new GM and senior VP. Think there's any sense of vengeance?

Pirates win, 1/2 game back. Cardinals losing early in Arizona. If that holds up they'll be tied with 2 to play.
This is not some silly theory that's unsupported and deserves being mocked by photos of Xena.
