WAR is at it's best when trying to decide how you can value guys with a big bat and no glove vs the opposite. It's great with surrounding context.

Is there a standard deviation-adjusted WAR metric? I think consistency is undervalued in sports, and particularly baseball. Give me someone who is consistently above average over someone who puts up HOF numbers for 2 months and then disappears for 4 months any day of the week. Is there a stat for that?

Somewhere earlier in the week I mentioned the four guys traded for Garza had yet to appear on their major league roster. So much for that theory, I certainly spoke too soon.

I googled it and read four players traded so I am sorry. It said four PROSPECTS. I looked for all five of the names on the current DRays roster and saw none.......then Archer appeared and did well.



The article was about who got the best of the deal in the trade. Here is what it said:

I hope so, but it's pretty much all upside for the white sox. considering the enormous bags of shit they have been trotting out to third this year, the worst this can end up is they traded 2 useless players for a smaller bag of shit than what they already had. Kenny Williams takes NO risk and will either be seen as having given up nothing, or a genius, depending on how Youk reacts to the deal. There is no downside to the deal for him.

I don't disagree at all, but even if Youk reverts back to his career numbers for the remainder of the season, I don't think he puts them over the top. KW isn't taking any risk here, which is great for him, because he doesn't have anything of value to trade away to add a true difference maker to fill any of the team's many holes.



I'm sure I'll end up being wrong on all accounts.
