Nobody should be using just one metric to make an analysis. Nearly every stat has its flaws and benefits. Sure, WAR has barney unreasonably high. But no one should be using that stat in a vacuum to begin with. If one continues to dig deeper and use various other stats one can find his true value with reasonable accuracy.
If you just ask "what" without following up with "why, how and what else" then you are going to get an incomplete analysis.
If Angelo had picked McClellin, I would have been expecting to hear by training camp that kid has stage 4 cancer, is actually 5'2" 142 lbs, is a chick who played in a 7 - 0 defensive scheme who only rotated in on downs which were 3 and 34 yds + so is not expecting to play a down in the NFL until the sex change is complete and she puts on another 100 lbs. + but this is Emery's first pick so he'll get a pass with a bit of questioning. - 1060Ivy

While I don't think Barney is a top 5 player in the NL like WAR does, I do think he has a lot more value than he gets credit for around here. Whether its as a plus defensive middle infielder who hits 7th-8th or as a utility guy, he is a nice player to have around.

Barney would be a great utility-player on a winning team. He'd have a lot of value in that type of role. He'd be perfect for the Dodgers, Rangers or Yankees.
I got nothin'.

I'm not sure where I fall on this discussion, but I like WAR, because it's easy to understand. I got curious to I went to Baseball Reference and noticed that the Cubs have the #1 and #2 players in the league for Defensive WAR. #1, not surprisingly is Barney. I was surprised to see that #2 is Castro. So, according to WAR, we have the two best middle infielders in the game and we're still the worst team in baseball. Awesome.

That would be a sick rotation.

I'm just mesmerized by this stat.

He's going to be terribly wild, and probably just plain terrible out of the rotation.

He'll probably dominate and contend for a Cy Young.
