MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox)
That shirt is almost bad as an Affliction tee. And why the lame tough-guy inspirational blurb and wings, seriously? Clearly pot-heads in Asia are much different than the domestic variety.

Is that really the shirt Darvish decided to wear on the day he arrived at camp? Of all the shirts in his wardrobe?

I was thinking the same thing. I have a feeling Yu will be setting in some meeting with Rangers PR folks.

Or maybe that's the logo of some Japanese company and he gets paid to look like a pothead.

Quote:Working alongside interpreter Joe Furukawa, Darvish gave thoughtful answers to sometimes insipid questions.

Like the one about the T-shirt that he was wearing when he arrived at DFW Airport. Talk radio and the internet were abuzz Friday because the shirt bore the English phrase, "I will survive," circling what appeared to be the image of a marijuana leaf.

What's the matter with you people? The Japanese maple leaf is a recurring symbol in the country's art and poetry. Look closer -- that's the leaf depicted on Darvish's shirt.

"It's from the earthquake," said Todd Daniel, who lived in Japan for 13 years and was one of the Rangers fans who watched outside. "The leaf and the 'I will survive' were meant to help with the earthquake relief."

I thought they were Grateful Dead lyrics too.

How many Japanese earthquake relief t-shirts with a chorus line from a Grateful Dead song, written in English are sold in Japan?

They guy just signed a contract for over $50 MM if he wants to show up looking like a pot head wearing a shirt with GD lyrics that's his prerogative. If he's agents PR lackey wants to spin a line of believeable BS - hey that's what they get paid for - but I chose to believe the dude might be a pot head story.

Apparently, Occam's Razor is best used to slash one's wrists.

Quote:There was a bit of a stir created by the photos of the arrival, when Darvish wore a T-shirt with the phrase "I Will Survive" surrounding the image of a Japanese Maple Leaf, which looks similar to a marijuana leaf.

"In Japan, anything that's like a T-shirt with English words on it," he said. "We just tend to wear it, we don't really actually know what it means."

I think this is just silly...especially the notion that the legend on the shirt is a quote from a Grateful Dead song. Or that if it was, Darvish would even know that.

Kemp is calling a 50-50 season next year. The crazy thing is....I think he might actually do it. The kid, i mean guy, showed his true hustle and talent last year which coincidentally happened to be a contract year.... I bet he feels robbed that he didnt bring home the MVP though so now he's gonna put the pedal down. If he has another MVP-caliber season; I bet the Dodgers take the West.

I thought it was Matt Kemp declaring he was bi and going on a campaign to have sex with 50 men and 50 women this season.

Good luck, Matt

I'm gonna go ahead and bet the under on that one. Once these stars sign big contracts, they usually abandon the base-stealing side of their game to ensure their longevity.

Bullshit. I challenge you to come up with one example where a 40/40 guy signed a big contract and then failed to even steal 20 bases ever again...whose name doesn't rhyme with Oriano.
