I never understood the Fukudome hate. He was one of our most fundamentally sound players.

A lot of people have trouble searating their hatred of a contract from hatred of a palyer.

And a lot of people were spoiled by Fuk's 1H of 2008. He never seemed to come close to that level of play after his ASG appearance. I'm sure that if we had won a few playoff games (or more) during his 3.5 seasons here, no one would have singled him out they way they did. We had much bigger problems than a guy who got on base consistently, played the game hard and played excellent defense. But pay him like a middle of the order hitter, and don't be shocked at the fan reaction when he doesn't perform like one.

Overpaid players overstay their welcome because they're hard to deal. If he'd been getting paid what he was worth, he wouldn't just have been immune to the fan ire over being overpaid, he'd have been gone a log time ago.

If he was getting paid what he was worth, I doubt that there'd be much desire in either the clubhouse or the stands to see him go.

So how is it that the Yankees have 3 highly interested teams in Burnett (apparently they are paying $20mil of his $33mil salary) and appear to be close to a deal AND will receive prospects, yet we weren't able to trade Garza? I guess we really were asking for the moon, which is fine, but baseball sometimes makes little sense. So many teams interested in expensive crap.

I'm guessing the prospects term is being used rather loosely. I can't imagine NYY receiving anything significant in return.

Supposedly deal is being finalized between Pirates and Yankees - Yeah, we've heard this before but players have been identified/agreed upon according to Ken Davidoff of Newsday.
Pirates paying $13 - $15 MM of the $33 MM contract and Yankees receive B level prospects.

"B" better stand for "bust."

Manny Ramirez tells ESPN Gomez that he is joining the A's for $500,000 for 2012. Not certain if that amount is pro-rata for the 50 games suspension that he has to serve for this season or not.
Should be a relatively low risk move as long as Manny has something left in the tank. Seeing he went something like 1-17 for the Rays to start 2011 season. Not too sure.

If I read correctly it is also a Minor League deal.

What channel on DirecTv is "ESPN Gomez"? Man, those guys have, like, the whole early 200s.

What is that woman looking at? Hey, he's right behind you, you know the reason you had that sign made and brought that baseball.

Is that really the shirt Darvish decided to wear on the day he arrived at camp? Of all the shirts in his wardrobe?
