Exact same thing with Abreu and Alf. You're giving up runs defensively, but gaining back more with the bat.
Only since Dunn is a more productive hitter than Abreu, you get more offense back with him.
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

I didn't know Abreu had slipped that far defensively. Now that I know, I'll pass on him as well.

And if Bradley signs elsewhere?

Truthfully, Ace? I'd say that you have pointed out something: there is close to a 100% chance that we sign Bradley
.
Think about it...even among Jim's ol' boy network of scouts, they're likely well-aware that Abreu is a bad option. It seems painfully clear.
Ibanez is gone. And they detest Dunn because...
well, there's no good reason, but all scout>sabermetric
types hate his ass.

That leaves only one option, and when there's only one option, Jimbo almost always gets his man.

I see a Bradley signing within 3-4 days. Book it.

Dunn over Abreu?

I think you would find that it is, if not a majority position, a strong minority.

A room full of psychos can be a majority, too.

If Adam Dunn moved into neighborhood of troglodytes, he'd drive down the property values.

Dunn is a bad baseball decision for any NL team unless he can learn to play 1B. Just sayin.

And by that line of reasoning, signing Manny Ramirez, even for one year, is a bad decision. Because he's a worse fielder than Dunn.

Oh...unless you consider hitting to be worth anything. Then both players are pretty good options.

Sorry, but you just compared the greatest right handed hitter of our time to a guy that is a career .247 hitter. That doesn't work.
The thing you need to remember is that all Cardinals fans and all White Sox fans are very bad people. It's a fact that has been scientifically proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. Being a Cubs fan is the only path to rightousness and piousness. Cardinal and White Sox fans exist to be the dark, diabolical forces that oppose us. They are the yin to our yang, the Joker to our Batman, the demon to our angel, the insurgence to our freedom, the oil to our water, the club to our baby seal. Their happiness occurs only in direct conflict with everything that is pure and good in this world.

And Manny's not as bad as Dunn out there. He's not good, but Dunn is just awful.

I compared their fielding.
But I did enjoy your notion that a ballplayer's entire offensive value can be expressed through batting average.

Dunn is highly rated by stat people, because to them, the only true offensive skills are walking and homering (the results of batted balls put in play is luck). The stat method is of course great at evaluating any the numbers, but fails to quantify (I won't call them intangibles) the things that make baseball, baseball. These include clutch and situational hitting. Depending on the situation, Dunn can be pitched so that he will likely walk or KO (50% OBP, but little chance of hit, sac fly or moving the runner over) or he can be pitched to contact (low OBP, but significant chance of HR). This is why Dunn is known for being a poor clutch hitter and a lot of meaningless solo hrs.
I like you guys a lot.
