Ibanez to Phillies

Just want to say - obviously I'd much rather have Dunn than Abreu. But we are not pursuing Dunn based on ANYTHING I've seen in the last 3 weeks. So I just don't even think about it.

To me it is not a matter of Dunn over Bradley. When we signed Soriano he became our leftfielder, Dunn is a DH who is forced to leftfield because he has always played in the NL. DH is the only defensive position that Dunn can handle at a major league acceptable level. Ibanez is a former catcher who is now 36 not a prime candidate for moving to rightfield, philly needed a leftfielder and they are used to having a terrible defensive leftfielder. It is Bradley for the Cubs in right. He hits better than Dunn and is one of the better defensive rightfielders out there.

I'm not saying Bradley sucks in the field because I really don't know. But you do realize he played the vast majority of his games at DH last year.

Bradley was a CF, and a pretty good one, not too long ago, I think he would be above average in the field. The reason he DH'd so much was for health reasons.

Yes, he was awesome last year... in Arlington.

Yes, he was awesome the year before... in like 60 games.

Before that, he was just a little better than average. And fragile. And a headcase.

Yeah like people have said before, he really hasn't had a full season ever. He may be the most talented OF on the market, but undoubtedly the most fragile. Like Clapp said, hopefully he gives us 100 good games and is healthy for the playoffs, if so, then its probably worth it.

He was coming off of the ACL surgery last year and Texas had plenty of outfielders, so Bradley spent the majority of his time as DH. He did play in the field on occasion, and he was stealing bases again. People, if you are looking for Bradley to play 150 games, you are nuts. We have depth to get through the regular season, give me Bradley for 120 games and have him healthy for the postseason where he can be a real difference maker.

These are the reasons I have resurrected the DUNN discussion from the scrapheap. Good, solid reasons, IMO.
If we gamble with Bradley, I'll love it for entertainment value. LOVE it.
But Dunn would be a better baseball decision.
