If Adam Dunn had done this (or Brian Giles, for that matter), we'd be hearing about how he cared more about getting a paycheck than about playing on a good (or better than SD, at least) team.
A non-Petco Peavy is not an elite arm and not worth the package of prospects or (mainly) the cash. If the Cubs are looking for pitching, they should go elsewhere.

I watched the little press conference. When Peavy said he just wanted to focus on his start against us tomorrow night, oh I dunno, I got the sense that he still was holding out for a trade here.
Yeah, and tomorrow I'm gonna just smile every time I pass by those two high-five-happy douchebags at work. And they love to say that Cubs fans are naive. Well, how do ya like them apples?

5. there is no hurry for peavy to make any kind of decision. there will be plenty of other teams ready to make a deal. all he has to do is wait for the right one.

I agree with everything you said except for #5. There are very few teams, if any, who are in a position to take on Peavy's remaining salary.

And neither are the Sox. They'll never admit it, but I bet you that final option year was treated as a non-starter. I think Peavy would be willing to put that issue off into the future provided that he could be traded to a better team. It's his right, and I won't rip him for trying to hold out for the best situation. It's not like he's asking for money that isn't coming to him or making outlandish demands.

I've been saying this forever. Nobody ever talks about it, but virtually any time anyone talks to Kenny Williams, he feels the need to broadcast to the world that they are trying to win a championship.
I've said before that if I went to a party that KW was at, and accidentally tried to open the bathroom door while he was in there, he would suddenly shout "HEY, I'm trying to win a championship in here!"
I wish that I believed in Fate. I wish I didn't sleep so late. I used to be carried in the arms of cheerleaders.

And this morning, all the giddy fans from yesterday are strangely silent. One of the few who has said anything, blamed the entire thing on SD holding the Sox up for too much and trying to pressure Peavy into making a decision too soon. Really...

But while Peavy might have done a quick thumbs-down on the White Sox, the Cubs still appear to rank second on his wish list.
5. And once you get beyond the Cubs and Dodgers, his next tier of preferred destinations appears to include the Giants, Cardinals and Astros (because of his friendship with Roy Oswalt). Then the Brewers would lag slightly behind that group. East Coast teams like the Phillies, Mets, Yankees and Red Sox would probably have to jump through so many hoops and offer so many dollars and perks, we'd bet heavily against Peavy winding up in the Eastern time zone any time soon.
Jake-ing one more: Here's a tale we've heard a couple of different times, from people tight with Oswalt: The Astros ace has lobbied on multiple occasions with owner Drayton McLane to get his club to make a run at Peavy. But that conversation is said to have ended when McLane turned to Oswalt and asked: "Are you gonna pay for half the contract?"<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

The thing you need to remember is that all Cardinals fans and all White Sox fans are very bad people. It's a fact that has been scientifically proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. Being a Cubs fan is the only path to rightousness and piousness. Cardinal and White Sox fans exist to be the dark, diabolical forces that oppose us. They are the yin to our yang, the Joker to our Batman, the demon to our angel, the insurgence to our freedom, the oil to our water, the club to our baby seal. Their happiness occurs only in direct conflict with everything that is pure and good in this world.
