The likelyhood of Peavy
Peavy declined the trade

Poor Sox, I bet those two guys aren't high-fiving each other anymore.

It's awesome. You White Sox haters can have some fun with this one.

1. The Padres are not trading A. Gonzales. He's 26, he's cheap, and he's one of the best players in baseball. Literally, top ten. Since there is no Cub who is that good, we'd have to trade two young, cheap stars to get him, like Soto and Marmol. And Jim would never make that trade, nor should he.

2. Peavy would be stupid to give the go-ahead to a trade unless he could force the new team to pick up his huge option. As someone said, that's his bargaining chip. (unless he really wants to be a Cub, which, luckily for us, seems possible).

3. I kinda agree with Clapp and rok that Soto's value is larger than it seems, because catchers are so damn hard to find. He brings value to the Cubs even when he's not hitting, and there's a good chance he will start hitting.

4. I disagree with Clapp that D.Lee is an above-average 1st baseman anymore. I'm thrilled that he's started to hit a little. But he sucked in April, and his glove has gone from best in MLB, to very average. I'll always like him as a person, but if I were Lou, I'd be giving Hoff a lot more playing time at first; not a strict platoon, but a just lot more AB's.
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

Is that official?
Some men are born mediocre, some men achieve mediocrity, and some men have mediocrity thrust upon them.

On 4. He's still right at league average for a first baseman at the plate, and yes he IS a very good 1b defensively still. I don't know what games you guys have been watching, he's yet to make an error there, he's yet to not get to a ball where I think he would've gotten to 5 years ago, he still digs everything, and he still saves the 3b and SS with errors all the time because of his 6'5 height. I don't understand where all the declining defense stuff comes from.

I want more at bats for Hoff as well. Give Bradley a day off each series, and Lee and Soriano a day off more often.

Yeah it's been reported by everybody. Twitter is the greatest news-breaking source ever.

And Peavy just held a press conference to really confirm that.

"Right now, this is the best place for me and my family."

Sure that's the reason Jake.

In this day and age, it's amazing that high-profile people can spew that kind of total bullshit into a microphone, and not be called on it.

Still, it's good news.

It's only good news if he comes to the Cubs. If ends up in Milwaukee or St. Louis we'll be wishing he went to the Sox.

I would rather he was straight up and say "Listen, I'd rather quit baseball than play for a team whose fans amount to nothing more than a bunch of shit covered douche nozzles... and Ozzie Guillen is a cum stain."

Will Carroll said he's hearing that Peavy made it pretty clear he won't accept a trade anywhere. I'm not buying that, and I didn't believe anything in his press conference after watching it a couple times. He wants to go to a team like the Cubs or Red Sox.

If Richard and Poreda were the centerpieces I would think the Cubs have enough to get this done. Marshall and Jackson could be the centerpieces. If the Sox did not have to give up Beckham we can get this done without giving up Vitters. Swoop in Jim and get him.

Then, if we do need offense, we do still have a trade chip in Vitters.

Well we have enough to get the deal done, we just don't have the money.
