I never raped a book. That was my...uh...friend.

It's totally factual, but it highlights the juicy stuff, like all good dramatic material.
A movie would likely do the same.
As a film subject, Beane is an interesting guy; a genuinely gifted athlete who failed at playing baseball, then made a Phoenix-like rise through an intellectual pursuit (in the same field).
He's also handsome, charismatic, boisterous, bullish, and inspires both adoration and intense jealousy, even hatred...there's a reason they're making a movie about the guy, and that Brad Pitt is going to play him.
As for Dirk's laughable, juvenile, absurd quote, I'll just let it sit there and gather scorn...it's a "logic fail" question that has been blasted to smithereens so many times on the internet that I'll just let Butch's post answer it here.
wow, there was so much gay content in this post that i'm thinking that maybe you're in love with the guy.

It's gay to point out the obvious fact that Beane doesn't look like other GM's? That point was mentioned in the book.
If they were doing JIM HENDRY: THE MOVIE would they cast Pitt to play the role? I'm thinking more along the lines of the guy who played Norm on Cheers.

BTW, if my appreciation of the way a guy puts together a ball team makes me gay, then break out the Liza Minnelli records, and put a poster of Jake Gyllenhaal on the wall.

Imagine if Chris Farley were still alive, he could have played Hendry. Now, THAT would have been a movie I'd like to see.

90 minutes of a fat guy on a cell phone wouldn't sell too many tickets.

Not even when he sealed the deal on Lilly in the hospital after a heart attack? I think it would be hilarious.

That part could be good. Hendry just doesn't seem all that charismatic to me.

I think he's got a side we don't see too much. He's pretty outgoing and seems like a cool dude when he'll ever like join Len & Bob in the booth for example. He was a well respected coach at Creighton for awhile too, even won the NCAA Coach of the Year award.

QUOTE General manager Jim Hendry seems to be paying attention to on-base percentage, a stat the Cubs have not been known to embrace in the past.
"We've been paying attention to it for a while," said Hendry, insisting the Cubs began emphasizing it in the farm system when Dusty Baker was the manager. "We've made adjustments to the modern era.
"At the same time, I still like guys … you can take their batting average in the first six innings, and to me it's about half as important as the batting average in the seventh, eighth and ninth. But you have to take notice when people like Bradley have that kind of pop and still have that tremendous on-base percentage

Did we actually need further proof that Jim is bad at math?

Either the tongue-in-cheek-ness isn't obvious enough for me, or that quote went waaaaaaay over your head.

Exactly invisible man. If Sullivan had an ounce of credibility, no big deal.
