Well, the point is more about this season. There would have been significantly more at bats to go around this season with Bradley in the equation.
The thing about this whole thing for me is that I really wasn't all that upset with trading DeRosa to get Fontenot more at bats, until we turned around and gave Aaron Miles $5 million to replace him. And yes, in the grand scheme of things, Miles did essentially replace DeRosa. I can't even understand that being a question.

Edmonds wasn't coming back. We needed another starting outfielder. We got Bradley, who replaced Edmonds.
DeRosa was traded. Fontenot became the starter. We needed an extra middle infielder. We got Miles, who replaced DeRosa.
I'm not even sure what we're arguing anymore. All I know is Aaron Miles has done nothing thus far to make me think he is going to be any sort of a worthwhile contributor to this team.

Miles replaced Cedeno. Fontenot replaced DeRosa. Fontenot's position was never replaced (that roster spot basically went to Gathright), hence we only have 3 MI on the entire 40 man. Trying to look at the moves as individual moves doesn't make sense, that's the point I'm trying to make and people keep ignoring.

To me, the central point is when you sign a guy who is always hurt half the season and you can expect other players on the roster to suffer injuries (like every team), it's nice to have a solid utility guy and/or backup. DeRosa would've been the perfect compliment to Bradley/Ramirez/Lee/Alf/Fontenot. And we dumped him for dick. It was a stupid move.

There just wasn't a spot on the team for DeRo. They wanted Fontenot to get GUARANTEED at bats. Hendry could not go up to DeRo, tell him he lost his starting spot, but would get at bats because they expect the newly signed RFer to be injured for 60+ games. That would have never worked.
