It is also time to start considering using Guzman and Marshall in the eighth inning.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I'd definitely like to at least try Guzman there soon. Maybe something like that would get Marmol to stop dicking around. Tonight was the most frustrating night yet watching him for me. I was screaming at the tv to throw the goddamn fastball.

I'd love to hear what Lou and Larry are saying in the dugout during Marmol's appearances.

I always narrate what I think Rothschild is saying to Marmol out on the mound. Tonight's episode:

"Marmol, you do know if you don't start throwing fucking strikes Lou is going to rip off your fucking dick and shove down your stupid mouth, don't you? Now quite being a fucking putz and get these fuckers out. No pressure."
"Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that." - George Carlin

"That was some of the saddest stuff I've ever read. Fuck cancer and AIDS, ignorance is the scourge of the land." - tom v

I will give it to Gregg tonight as he worked through a difficult situation. It is never pretty with him, but the ending is the most important thing.

The thing is, it worked, so I guess Lou deserves credit, but it seems to me that bringing Marmol in, with guys ALREADY on base is just asking for trouble. He really is a special talent, but he pretty much can't enter a game without walking 2 guys.
I wish that I believed in Fate. I wish I didn't sleep so late. I used to be carried in the arms of cheerleaders.

Yep, I completely agree. The previous 2 years there's not a pitcher in baseball I'd rather have come in then, and I think that's still stuck in Lou's head.

Gregg's performance last night was ballsy, for sure. But man...Zimmerman just missed a grand slam -- I know his fly ball didn't make it to the warning track, but he hit it hard. Then he goes full to Dunn and walks him, to load up the bases. Then he goes full on Willingham, coming dangerously close to walking in a run before he grounded out -- also a pretty hard hit ball. Really thin ice.

The bottom of the 9th was significantly prettier and less stressful, but he was facing Willie Harris, Alberto Gonzalez, and Wil Nieves.

I don't hate Kevin Gregg, and again, it isn't easy to get a 5-out save and he came into a really difficult situation. So I feel a little bad about being critical about his outing last night when he got the job done.

All I'm saying is that he doesn't inspire a whole lot of confidence in me. He seems to go deep in a lot of counts and record a lot of "loud" outs even when he's effective.

He sucks.
If Angelo had picked McClellin, I would have been expecting to hear by training camp that kid has stage 4 cancer, is actually 5'2" 142 lbs, is a chick who played in a 7 - 0 defensive scheme who only rotated in on downs which were 3 and 34 yds + so is not expecting to play a down in the NFL until the sex change is complete and she puts on another 100 lbs. + but this is Emery's first pick so he'll get a pass with a bit of questioning. - 1060Ivy

My thoughts exactly. He just doesnt have a pitch to put batters away.

He's struck out 43 batters in 44.1 innings though, I think the talk of him not having "closer's stuff" is overblown. His curveball is superb at times and he locates his fastball well on the corners. He gets a ton of called fastball strikes that way.

And it should be known I don't even think Gregg's great by any means, he's an average closer. He's better than Wood or Marmol would've been though, and that's basically how we should be grading him. It's mainly the foolishness of so many of our fans(none here). I've been embarrassed to be a Cubs fan this year between crap like this, the constant booing of the players, etc.
