the argument was, and is, a guy who has a career year at 32 is unlikely to keep it up, let alone get better. It's possible, and DeRosa seems to be bucking the trend, but in most cases a guy will get worse after that.
to put it another way, the cubs have invested in both trade and free agent $$ in tons of guys who put their best season together after they turn 30. It has rarely worked out for them. Unless you were a big fan of the Blauser signing.

He did start in, but even if he sprints back, I highly doubt he catches that ball which was also tailing to right-center. Agreed, I was hoping someone else noticed that. You think they'd be playing more of a deep, no doubles sort of thing with Albert up and a runner on 2nd, if so he may actually catch the ball. Only because I'd think it's more likely he hits one deep then dumps one into the shallow outfield, it's Albert Pujoles.
Also, Pujoles had 7 at bats, he shouldn't be pitched to that much period.

DeRosa wasn't going to require a big investment. $5.5M this season. And I think it's reasonable to expect a slight regression, but why should he fall off a cliff? Fuck, I wish we still had him instead of Fontenot.
