Cards apparently get Holliday
<!--quoteo(post=54532:date=Jul 31 2009, 08:21 PM:name=Clapp)-->QUOTE (Clapp @ Jul 31 2009, 08:21 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><!--quotec-->Holliday came into tonight hitting .520 as a Cardinal, he's 2 for 2 with an RBI single. And Julio fucking Lugo has 3 triples in a Cardinals uniform now. It's simply unbelievable.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

And if I were a Cards fan, I'd say "all of this and we're in second place right now!! Bunch o' morans!"

Make that 3 for 3 for Holliday.

Make it 4 for 4 as he ties it in the 8th with a double.

And back to 2nd place.

Until we start beating teams with winning records, I'm gonna have to reserve judgment on our team, even after the hot start post-All Star break. We look very average against good teams, lifeless even. I'm very worried about the Cards now.

I don't know what to think. I've been worried about the Cards all season. But Holliday isn't going to hit .600 the rest of the season. I just pray they don't make the postseason. With Carpenter and Wainwright at 1 and 2, they could go far.

The Astros were playing well and were right behind us, record-wise when they came to town.

But we haven't played good teams since April with Soriano hitting like this, Aramis playing, Kosuke batting leadoff, Bradley getting on base like crazy, etc. I think our team is completely different(offensively at least) than the one we saw in May and June.

This is going to be a rough stretch though, I've been worried about it for awhile. We're an average road team, we don't play the Fish well, we'll have an unknown in Gorzelanny going in Cincy and at Colorado, 4 games at Colorado which is a nightmare for anybody, and then 3 vs. Philly at Wrigley. Need to find a way to play around .500 ball. The Cards are probably going to beat up on this cake schedule for a bit and I expect us to be 2 or 3 out at the end of this stretch. Still, we'll be plenty in it and have some favorable stretches coming up as well, won't be worth freaking out over.

I'm not freaking out, just saying that the jury is still out on this team. This stretch will tell us a lot about how this team stacks up against better teams.

Holiday may not hit .600 the rest of the year, but neither will Pujols continue hitting .220.

So Holliday will probably hit about 300 points lower and Pujols 80 points higher. That'll work.

And Holliday starts off with a homer off the hottest pitcher on the planet, Wandy Rodriguez. Even better, Roy Oswalt scratched tomorrow, Bud Norris will take on Adam Wainwright. The Cards' schedule is set up where they should be favored in all but 1 game for about the next 2 weeks. They'll toss Carp and Wainwright at the Pirates, then at home against the Padres.

And now Wandy Rodriguez leaves the tied game with an injury.

And another homer for Holliday.

A big second half from Holliday would mean a huge contract for him this offseason. On one hand it would be bad for us this season but on the other hand it will definitely put him out of the Card's reach beyond this season. The perfect scenario would be him having a big 2nd half and Cards still end up losing the division to us. Also of all the prospects dealt this offseason Brett Wallace IMO was the best one.
