Movies have different purposes. Some make you think, some make you laugh, some make you cry, and some are made to take you somewhere you will never (and in some cases don't want to) go. Certainly there are adventure movies that are not only thrilling, but have great characters, and relatively small loopholes in logic. Those movies come around every 5-10 years, and are classics. To write off everything else as a stupid action movie is to be elitist. It also will make you miss out on a lot of fun.
And frankly, even the classics have logic gaps.
-Didn't Indiana Jones traverse an ocean by stowing away on the deck of a submarine THAT NEVER SUBMERGED?
-In the attack on the Death Star, you realize the X-wing fighters are attacking at about 400 MPH. In outer space, they'd be doing at least 10 times that speed, and dog fighting with lasers would be far more ineffective than dog fighting with machine guns is now.
-In Die Hard, would someone as smart as Hans have a big laugh with McClane before shooting him, or would he put one in his head as soon as he dropped his gun?
I could go on. You get the point though. Con Air is a stupid, illogical, poorly written movie. And I pretty much watch it every time it comes on.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I've always been a sucker for politcal/spy thrillers. I still watch Three Days of the Condor every time it's on. I thought the Bourne movies were just great. That's the ass-kicking variety of my preference.

I saw this flick last week.
Positives:
It's a decent popcorn flick and great special effects. Good performance by Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Negatives:
My main gripe with the movie is that its 3 hours long. I don't mind sitting 3 hours if its Braveheart or Lord of the Rings extended edition, but a film with zero plot and acting shouldn't go this long. Needed to cut an hour of it.
Plus its basically bullshit. Most movies get away with the bullshit factor, but you can only watch so many planes and cars avoiding buildings, volcanoes, earthquakes, shit falling from the sky etc. First time yeah but not after the fifth fucking time. It was too much.
John Cusack - the guy is shit and couldn't act in a c-grade porno. He hasn't made a decent movie since Better Off Dead.
The whole 2012 end of the world seems a bit far fetched.

Normally I'm with you Butch, but I love John Cusack. Tom's right. He's been in a ton of great stuff. And he left out "The Sure Thing", "Eight Men Out", and he was fucking awesome in "The Thin Red Line".

I thought Thin Red Line was a half hour too long, but the scene where Nolte is telling Cusack about his own son, while Cusack essentially changes Nolte's mind without saying a word, is one of my all time favorite scenes from ANY movie.
