I'm a Cubs fan. I can't help that I hate black people.

How in the world is a guy who puts up a .681 OPS in a quadrillion at bats in 2005 worth $5.5 million?

I'm interested in some of the x-factors that we will probably never know about- was Hendry ever pressured by ownership to sign a particular player, or at the very least, make a big splashy signing? Also were there any non trades/signings that now look brilliant/stupid? I'm sure every other GM deals with these but it would be interesting to know.

Well, Fangraphs says it was a good signing. So there's that.

I think just looking at the list, and not knowing the x-factors, you can see that Hendry is mostly a pretty decent GM. He isn't perfect, by any means, but we could do worse. But we could probably do better, too.

Aardsma is looking great right now, but he was terrible for the Sox when we traded him. If that is considered a bad move than the Jerome Williams for Aardsma deal should be considered a good move.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I have an extreme hatred for Cotts which, admittedly, is probably clouding my judgment. I'm not changing it.

A pitcher that can't put the ball anywhere near the plate no matter how badly he would like to, is a bad thing. Don't feel bad about hating Cotts.

Yes. He signed Dempster in '04. I'll add him to the "good" list.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Only if you put the subsequent way over market signing in 2008 in the bad category.

If you mean you're uncomfortable with being actually accused of racism for criticizing the job performance of Baker, Hawkins or Bradley...then I'm with you.

Hey Butch, baseball prospectus says the same thing. His 2.7 WARP1 would make him the 8th best player on the team this year as well. Better than ARam, theriot, baker, and 2/3rds of the team. You know who else it was much better than? Mark DeRosa's numbers with the Cardinals. I guess THEY aren't worth anything either, right?

Let's see. He was also 9th on the whole team according to Bill James Win Shares. So Bill James is a douche bag too I guess. I literally can't think of another evaluation to look at (yes his OPS sucked, but that doesn't take his fielding into account). Of the ones I can actually think of Perez was worth more than 1.75 a year.

So you can keep using my post as a punchline, but you are just being stubborn.
I wish that I believed in Fate. I wish I didn't sleep so late. I used to be carried in the arms of cheerleaders.

Matt Lawton sucked a fat boner.
If Angelo had picked McClellin, I would have been expecting to hear by training camp that kid has stage 4 cancer, is actually 5'2" 142 lbs, is a chick who played in a 7 - 0 defensive scheme who only rotated in on downs which were 3 and 34 yds + so is not expecting to play a down in the NFL until the sex change is complete and she puts on another 100 lbs. + but this is Emery's first pick so he'll get a pass with a bit of questioning. - 1060Ivy

Everyone needs to get the fuck over Colvin. He is one draft pick at the end of the 1st round when no one else stood out as an OBVIOUSLY better pick. He was one pick in one draft. Coldneck, bring him up again and I'll poop on your doorstep.

Here's a spreadsheet with all Hendry's trades/signings/drafts from 2002-the 2007 off season. It's missing the past 2 years.

Hendry.xls
I got nothin'.
