Help me out, gents. I'm sure I'll forget some. Also, we have the benefit of hindsight here (most of us were pretty excited about Fukudome, for example). There will also certainly be a lot of moves that don't qualify as "good" or "bad," so I won't list them.

I still think the Marquis signing sucked, even if he had a few productive seasons.

If you go by fangraphs, Fukudome wasn't a "bad" signing at all. He wasn't great, and he hasn't lived up to expectations, he had an obp of 375 last year, and he plays good defense. Fangraphs has him "earning" 18.4 million over the last 2 years while making 19.5 million. Not anything to write home about, but I think his miserable 2nd half o 2008 has tainted peoples view of him.

He had a shitty 2nd half of 2009 as well. I think it's that pattern of inconsistency that pisses people off. You essentially had an all star for 2 halves of both seasons, and then a bum for the other 2 halves.

A couple of the signings were not bad at the time. Many of us think the Cubs should be like the Yankees. Target you guy and do what you need to do to get him. If we overpay a little...fine. I think that falls under the Soriano/ Fukudome. I'm not saying they were great, but he did what he had to do to get the player we needed.

He was better in the second half of 2009 than he was in the first half. He had a higher avg, obp and ops+ after the all star game than before it.

We traded Dontrelle for that 12 fingered fatass Alfonseca and Abe Clement. Dontrelle blows now but he had a solid 3 year run.
Other bad things include Tyler Colvin, Jeff Samardzija, not trading Corey and Pie until it was too late. He passed up on Beltran and a year later gave Soriano more than Beltran got.
At the same time you can say our farm system has improved of late under Wilken who was hired by Hendry.

Let me add the Soriano contract WILL BE bad, by definition, as there is almost no chance he can play up to those salary numbers. I think Hendry knew that when he signed him. It's part of the deal with the devil you make when you sign a premier free agent. But I'm not willing to say it's a bad signing right now, as I think he was hurt this year. The first two years of that contract he was worth every penny we paid him. People forget that.

Clement was good for us and we needed bullpen help. I think that trade is a wash -- and far too close to be considered "bad."
Did Hendry draft Colvin and Samardzija (I'm not ready to call Shark a bust just yet).

Jim Edmonds -- Good
Fat Bastard is an immensely obese, hardly able to walk (weighing a metric ton) gardener and henchman hailing from Scotland. His extreme size endows Fat Bastard with super-human strength as exhibited by his prowess in the Sumo ring from Goldmember. This makes him a formidable enemy for Austin Powers. Fat Bastard is noted for his foul temper, his frequent flatulence, his vulgar and revolting bad manners and his unusual eating habits, which include taste for Human infants (which he calls "the other other white meat") or anything that looks like a baby, e.g. small people. Fat Bastard has been a regular at Cub games since the early 80's when he tried several times (unsuccessfully) to eat the visiting San Diego Chicken.

I'm not sure the Aardsma for Cotts deal is a bad one. Aardsma is looking great right now, but he was terrible for the Sox when we traded him. If that is considered a bad move than the Jerome Williams for Aardsma deal should be considered a good move.

I have an extreme hatred for Cotts which, admittedly, is probably clouding my judgment. I'm not changing it.
