Seven straight multi-hit games, and .522 with RISP.

Send him to AAA and look at possibly bringing him up in June.

Mark Holliman? He was a Rebel.

He's in the Brewers organization now.

Yup, that's the guy - was absolutely dominant for a year with the Cubs (AA, I believe). Can't remember what happened.

He doesn't need to go to AAA. They will keep him where is at till it's time to bring him up most likely.

He threw a rain shortened no-hitter at Tennessee IIRC. Looking at his stats he consistently had an ERA upwards of 4 to 5. I always thought his numbers were better. Maybe the guru, Scarey, can fill us in.

This. That's the trend. Look at Matt Kemp, Jason Heyward and even Sean Marshall. They never went to AAA.

Let me play devil's advocate- if he's not going to be brought up to the big leagues why not AAA? Wouldn't he see more curveballs?

The pitching is more consistent in AAA, but I do think the better minor league pitchers - i.e., the top prospects - usually top out at AA.

I always think of AAA as being an older, more veteran league with guys who have either topped out short of the big league level(a Scott McClain/Jason Dubois type), and guys who are just off the roster or are has-beens(Iowa faces Gustavo Chacin tonight, for instance). AA is better suited for Starlin.

I always thought of AAA as the place to put players you can call up to fill spots if injuries hit. But as long as I have paid attention to minor league baseball it always seems like your top prospects are kept at AA.

I'm still surprised that Shafer is coming out of the pen, but it looks like he's taking to it.

What's surprising? I'm not saying you're wrong for being surprised, but what specifically do you find surprising?

I never paid much attention to Holliman. He never put up numbers or peripherals that stood out. I saw him very much like I saw Mitch Atkins. Neither of them ever really had a big time go to pitch either. The only difference was there was a time when I incorrectly thought Atkins had turned a corner.

Well last year was his first full year starting, and I didn't think he was *that* bad (4.49 ERA, 1.315 WHIP, good K/BB). And he was a second round pick.

Obviously I don't know why he was moved to the pen, but it just seemed surprising.
