You just know Heyward is going to win multiple MVPs with the Cards...

That's a terrible return for the Braves. Then again the chances the Cards will extend Heyward are slim to none.

I guess I don't understand what is so terrible about the trade for the Braves. They got rid of Heyward who in my opinion is just an average ball player. Defensively, he is outstanding, but offensively he has been overhyped since he got to the bigs. The Braves knew they were going to lose him so they traded him for two guys that they control for a long time. Miller has a ERA under 3.50 in 370 innings pitched and for as bad as everyone says he did last year, he was still a 3.74 ERA. His career WHIP is 1.23. The Braves have him for at least 4 more years.
Honestly, I think its a pretty good trade for the Braves. I would gladly take Shelby Miller as our 3rd or 4th SP for 4 cheap years.

Yep. As long as Miller's arm is fine, the Braves won this one.

Quote:Yep. As long as Miller's arm is fine, the Braves won this one.Overall I think it was a pretty fair trade. Pitching has been devalued of late because of the increase size of the strike zone. In turn, hitters have increased in value. Per fangraphs, Miller has 0.2 WAR (damn near replacement - was better at 2.1 the season prior) last season compared to Heyward's 5.1. I do get that they only control Heyward for one season but it most likely will give them a leg up in resigning him.

Not that I'm a proponent of WAR, but I'm pretty sure that that 5.1 is predominantly based on defense (which is one of the reasons I find WAR silly, as if we can boil down offensive, defensive, and pitching numbers to estimable comparatives).
Heyward's power has reduced substantially over the last couple of years, in a time when it should be growing. He's still young, so a lot can happen, but I get suspicious when a guy jacks 27 HRs in a season when he turns 23 midway and then his power starts to dry up. Heyward's fine, but he's no great shakes. Miller has the chance to be solid and even something special for many years--and cheaply. I don't get the gnashing of teeth on this one.

Because the cards will introduce him to their HGH program and he'll hit 35 HRs next year, sign a friendly exstenion and ride it into the Hall of Fame.

See, that song has to change. If this is the dawn of a new era of Cubs baseball, then we need to change how we talk about the Cardinals' and their handling of players. I posit that they'll work Heyward too hard in spring training, causing him to tear his ACL in his first Cardinals spring at bat, causing the bat to slip out of his hands and bonk Jordan Walden in the head. That's how I'm choosing to see things.

That would be so Card-like.

Thank you.

Something involving DUI would be much more Card-like...

What a fucking douche.
Quote:Bill Mueller, who resigned as the Cubs hitting coach after one season, has taken a job as an assistant hitting coach with the Cardinals, St. Louis GM John Mozeliak announced Monday. Mueller left after the Cubs decided not to retain assistant hitting coach Mike Brumley.

Quote:Word on the street is that Loria is locking up expensive talent to help sell the team by next year. Sam Zell 101. Regarding the Giancarlo Stanton deal: I am not hearing anyone talking about The Injury. So if this is in bad taste, I am sorry. But, my question is why not see him working against live pitching again before signing him to forever for everything? It has been two (off season) months. (I know I still suffer with Tony C., and PTSD, but) I question the timing here; and I pray the kid is all he was before and more. </blockquote> |
