Hmmm...and they are going for Sandoval. That could get interesting.

Does this take them out of the running for Lester?

I feel like Sandoval is overrated based on being good in the postseason.

It might, but methinks it puts SF right into the running.

Wouldn't expect the additions to slow their pursuit of Lester.

Didn't they add a ridiculous amount of free agent $ to the team a couple years ago which helped fuel the World Series win.

Sox have an interesting record.  Believe that they finished last in division a few years back, win the World Series the next season, then finish last in the division.

Yeah...I don't think it affects their pursuit of Lester at all. If anything, I think it shows they're going to be aggressive across the board.

Supposedly Lester despises Ramirez. It's something that goes back to when they were both in the Red Sox minor league system.

I'm bracing myself for the disappointment of not landing a top of the rotation starter this offseason.

Me too. I have no real reason the think that other than my natural Cub pessimism.

I'm in the same boat.  I'm thinking a return of Hammels this year and then make a run at one of the FotR guys next year.

I've come to grips with that. I get it but will still be disappointed. I think if anything, this makes it more likely that the Yanks jump into the FA bidding process to try to one-up the Red Sox. That's bad for everyone.

Why is the fact that Boston is spending on Ramirez and Sandoval getting everyone down? They're spending a $180 million on an oft-injured, bad defense SS and a fat 3B. So who cares? Maybe they move Ramirez to the OF, but Boston's OF is kind of crowded already. If they don't move him, they have to trade Bogaerts.

Cespedes, Craig and any of their 500 other 4th OFs become expendable.
