Peavy Talk
Agreed. I would not involve D-Ro, unless we got Roberts....which would be unlikely, IMO. I rather keep DeRosa than get Peavy....is that crazy?

barry bonds is the exception that proves the rule. how many times did he get to hit with runners in scoring position? he walked 200 times. the reason he has so many solo home runs is because that was the only time teams would pitch to him.

Because we are going to sign Bonds and Dunn then trade them for Peavy?

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->LAS VEGAS -- Before we discuss where Jake Peavy IS going to play next season, let's eliminate all the places we now know the Padres ace WON'T be playing next season:

Atlanta. Houston. The Bronx. Anaheim. Tokyo. Quad Cities. And, just to cover all the hot spots on the atlas, he won't be playing in Maui, Aruba or Kazakhstan, either.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Brand spankin new Stark article.

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->9:00pm: MLB.com's Corey Brock says the legwork on this trade "has essentially been completed." No deal has been reached, but Towers says he's facilitated a three or possibly four-team deal. The third and possibly fourth teams (Orioles, Phillies) have agreed to players. There could be some haggling remaining on players sent from the Cubs to Padres.

Brock says all Towers needs now is the go-ahead from Hendry.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
A herd of buffalo can move only as fast as the slowest buffalo. When the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.

In much the same way the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, we all know, kills brain cells, but naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers.

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Padres GM Kevin Towers said there's essentially a Jake Peavy deal in place if the Cubs are willing to sign off on it.
"There's a package there that will satisfy us ... there's a deal in the way of names," said Towers, who carefully stated that no deal, even in principle, has been reached. Towers has been in contact with the Phillies and Orioles and may have agreements with both of them in what would be a three- or four-team Peavy deal. Towers did say there might be some "haggling" over the players the Padres would get in return from the Cubs. If the Orioles are involved, it's very likely that they'd get Felix Pie from the Cubs and send Garrett Olson to San Diego. Dec. 8 - 10:02 pm et<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->The Padres like their chances of getting Orioles left-hander Garrett Olson in a side deal for Cubs reserve center fielder Felix Pie.

The Padres also have looked into getting Cubs second baseman Mark DeRosa and sending him to the Phillies, who will be without All-Star second baseman Chase Utley to open the season.

Towers said a Peavy trade could bring the Padres a shortstop, and the Cubs have offered reserve Ronny Cedeno. But he said that because three or four clubs could be involved, there are multiple scenarios involving different players.

Upgrading the bullpen has become a greater emphasis, Towers on Monday. He didn't identify potential trade additions, but the Padres like their chances of getting Cubs reliever Kevin Hart and have asked about Cubs relievers Michael Wuertz and Angel Guzman.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

DeRosa better not be going anywhere. He was arguably our MVP last year and he's one of the leaders of this team. Losing him and Wood would really hurt the clubhouse and leadership of this team. I'd be shocked if Hendry traded him.
