MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox)
Wolf is a solid SP. Good signing by the Brewers.

Ryan Church has been DFA by Braves. Haven't we had interest in the past?

Church in place of Johnson works for me.

Brewers and Wolf is a done deal. 3 years and "close to 30 million" is what I read.

$27 million.
The thing you need to remember is that all Cardinals fans and all White Sox fans are very bad people. It's a fact that has been scientifically proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. Being a Cubs fan is the only path to rightousness and piousness. Cardinal and White Sox fans exist to be the dark, diabolical forces that oppose us. They are the yin to our yang, the Joker to our Batman, the demon to our angel, the insurgence to our freedom, the oil to our water, the club to our baby seal. Their happiness occurs only in direct conflict with everything that is pure and good in this world.

Seems kind of high to me.

Regardless of the state of the economy, teams will still continue to overspend on pitching. I like Wolf, and don't think this is a terrible value, but when you look at someone like Penny who will make 7.5mil + incentives, it's pretty ridiculous.

Wolf had the 19th best VORP of all pitchers in both leagues last year. He was better than every Cubs pitcher, including the 3 that are paid much more than him. If you take into account his whole career I think $9 per season is a little high, but it really isn't way overboard.

I don't think it is a bad deal either.

But I was hoping that he would be closing for whichever team signed him.

My guess would be that Astros decide to waste some big cash and go after Soriano to close.

Giving 3 years to a 33 year old pitcher usually doesn't work out that well. I'd think the Brewers would have learned their lesson after Jeff Suppan. By the way, Randy Wolf's numbers at Miller Park: .271/.365/.494 allowing 8 home runs in 8 starts.

Another CF slips away from us. Corey Patterson just signed a minor league deal with the Mariners.
