I'm afraid that everything that he's done over the past few years since 2005 will work out for them. I still hate the bastard, but at some point I will have to admit that KW is more smart than lucky. I'm not at that point yet, but that day may come soon. All I can say is that we'd better turn our ship around soon and start building a real baseball organization not just a marketing machine, or else I may need to take a break from baseball for a few seasons like I did in the late 90s.

DeRosa wasn't just a fan favorite though, he was huge part of our success. Let's not turn this into another DeRosa discussion.
I'll I'm saying is that this organization has made a lot of mistakes in planning for the future in the past few seasons, and if we don't fix our roster and minor league system, all we will be left with is a bunch of high priced stars playing on a mediocre team. They will still fill seats, but I wonder how much longer we will have the financial flexibility to be able to compete. The window is closing, and I don't see much help coming from within the organization any time soon. The kids we've called up to help in the past few seasons are nice role players, but I have my doubts that we can build a good team around them for the future.

I'm simply saying that a team more concerned with marketing doesn't trade one of it's most popular players so they can sign a douchebag like Milton Bradley. Fans would have been happy keeping the same team together. They changed it up because they felt they had to from a competitive standpoint, not a marketing one.
I wish that I believed in Fate. I wish I didn't sleep so late. I used to be carried in the arms of cheerleaders.

They didn't trade DeRosa to get Bradley. They traded DeRosa to get Peavy.
So there's that.

People concerned about our talent in the minors shouldn't be too worried. There's always a chance a player can produce in the minors and flop in the majors, but we have a good amount of prospects performing very well right now.
Andrew Cashner, Jay Jackson, Chris Carpenter, and Rhee (if he recovers from TJS) all look to be mid to top rotation starters. Archer looks like he may be getting there too.
Parker, Gaub, Huseby, and Stevens are shaping into shut down relievers.
Their all pretty young, but Vitters, Lee, Castro, Lake, Watkins, and LeMahiue all have extremely high ceilings as infielders. Guys like Marquez Smith and Barney will make for solid roleplayers.
The only place we don't really have much is the outfield where Jackson has been off to a quick start.
There's talent there for sure. All you can really do is just hope it develops.

Why? As I just said, Wilken is 13 for his last 15 in first round picks alone. If anything, Vitters, Cashner, and Jackson have a very good shot given Wilken's past success.

They are high on John Danks's little brother in the OF. Also they have something like 45 million coming off the books next year, so I don't think this stops them from signing a FA.

Our minor league system has taken a big step forward this year (they had no where to go but up), but I am not yet ready to consider them a cornerstone.

People keep saying this, but I fail to understand how it's a positive. They have 40 million coming off their books if they don't resign Thome, Dye, Contreras, and Dotel. They just added 27 million between Peavy and Rios. So they have (assuming their payroll doesn't actually go DOWN in this market) 13 million left to fill RF, DH, 5th starter and top setup man. This doesn't even take into account Thome and Dye are (arguably) their 2 best hitters this year. In fact, out of those 4, the only one who isn't contributing is Contreras.
We could trade Lee, Soriano and Bradley, and have over 40 million left in payroll next year. We also would have huge holes to fill in our lineup.

I still find KW's story that when the Peavy trade came up a 2nd time, Reinsdorf initially tried to kill the deal because attendance had been down and were crying poor, yet now they are big spenders with Rios a few weeks later. Something isn't right here.
