I think the Dodgers may have just signed Padilla. But I could have read that wrong.

Looks like it was the Red Sox.
The thing you need to remember is that all Cardinals fans and all White Sox fans are very bad people. It's a fact that has been scientifically proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. Being a Cubs fan is the only path to rightousness and piousness. Cardinal and White Sox fans exist to be the dark, diabolical forces that oppose us. They are the yin to our yang, the Joker to our Batman, the demon to our angel, the insurgence to our freedom, the oil to our water, the club to our baby seal. Their happiness occurs only in direct conflict with everything that is pure and good in this world.

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->A couple of Mets teammates revealed Monday evening that Johan Santana's elbow is in bad shape, and may require surgery.
"I don't think anyone expects good news," said fellow starter Mike Pelfrey. New outfielder Jeff Francoeur concurred with that sentiment, adding that he thinks surgery is in the cards. Santana has already been scratched from his next scheduled start and it sure doesn't sound like he'll be returning this year. The left-hander will be examined by a specialist Tuesday before any decisions are made.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

There is literally but one team in baseball that has had worse luck this year than the Cubs. And it's the Mets.

Ditto.

Plus Wagner to the BoSox is a done deal.

As you guys likely saw, done for the year and "minor" elbow surgery. When it comes to a pitching arm, I don't think any elbow surgery is minor.

http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/9993146...Heilman-claimed

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->A National League team was awarded the claim on Heilman, one source said. The claiming team on Harden is not known, but presumably he did not get through the NL, either. Players must pass through their own league first before being exposed on waivers to teams in the other league. The Cubs will have until Monday afternoon to work out trades, allow Harden and Heilman to depart on claims or pull them back them from waivers.

Of the two pitchers, Harden is far more intriguing. He is 3-1 with a 1.80 ERA in eight starts since the All-Star break, and his .500 opponents' OPS is the second-lowest among NL starters in that stretch, behind only the Phillies' Cliff Lee.

Harden, however, projects as a Type A free agent, so the Cubs could collect two high draft picks if they offer him salary arbitration and lose him on the open market. His status almost certainly will lead the Cubs to demand a high price in a trade, even though a team that acquired Harden only would have him for September.

Among NL contenders, the Giants, Rockies and Dodgers all would figure to have interest in Harden. The Giants, the team with the worst record of the three, would have claiming priority.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Not sure if it warrants it's own thread, considering all players get put on waivers. What do you guys think of a possible trade of Harden? It's obvious we're not going anywhere this year.

I think Harden won't be traded and Hielman will be traded. Heilman is under our control for next year if we choose to offer him arbitration.

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->The Los Angeles Angels, looking to bolster their rotation for the last five weeks of the season and in October, are close to completing a deal for left-hander Scott Kazmir of the Tampa Bay Rays, according to sources.

The Angels and Rays had extensive conversations before the trade deadline about Kazmir, who is 8-7 with a 5.92 ERA.

MLB.com is reporting that the Rays will receive two prospects: pitcher Alexander Torres and third baseman Matthew Sweeney.

The Rays definitely would get salary relief in the deal. Tampa Bay is barreling toward a series of tough financial decisions because of its payroll restrictions, and the 25-year-old Kazmir is in the first year of a three-year, $28.5 million deal.

Tampa Bay may try to replace him in the rotation with one of its young prospects, such as Wade Davis, who is 10-7 with a 3.26 ERA in Triple-A. The Rays currently stand 3½ games out in the AL wild-card race.

Kazmir, who cleared waivers earlier this month, is making $6 million this year, and will make salaries of $8 million in 2010 and $12 million in 2011.

The left-handed Torres, 21, is 13-4 with a 2.75 ERA in the minors this season, while reaching Double-A. Sweeney, a 21-year-old third baseman, is hitting .296 in Class A, with nine homers, 44 RBIs, 26 walks and 37 strikeouts.

The Angels have dealt with a series of injuries and inconsistency with their rotation this season, as well as the death of Nick Adenhart. The Angels rank 24th in starters' ERA in the majors, at 4.96, yet have a four-game lead in the AL West, largely because they have had an overpowering offense that leads the majors in runs.

Kazmir went to the Rays in a trade with the Mets for Victor Zambrano.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I read somewhere that Dave Duncan might be leaving St. Louis after the season due to how his son was treated by the Organization. That would be pretty cool.
