Willis said that the disorder was diagnosed via blood tests: "They see something in my blood that they don't like. I'm not crazy. My teammates might think I'm crazy. But this is not something like that." However, both Detroit newspaper quote doctors indicating that using blood tests in the way described by Willis is unlikely and perhaps even impossible.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Sounds like he's crazy.

Ummm...yeah...

When did the psychiatric community start diagnosing disorders via blood tests?
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

No, really, it's true. He just needs some good old fashioned leech treatment to suck the demons out, and he'll be good as new.

Tigers released OF/DH Gary Sheffield.
The club will eat all of the $14 million Sheffield is owed for 2009. The 40-year-old hit .225 with 19 home runs and 57 RBI in 114 games last season. He missed time with a shoulder and oblique issue, but was thought to be fully healthy this spring. The move should open up more at-bats for Marcus Thames, and free up the DH spot in general. Sheff is just one homer shy of 500, but the Tigers' outfield became crowded Monday with the acquisition of Josh Anderson.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

If he was willing to play a part-time role, I'd drop Gathright and sign Sheff in a heartbeat. Between Alf and Bradley, you could probably get him 60-75 games and plenty of pinch-hitting appearances.

I don't think we need a veteran slugger. Between Johnson and Hollywood Hoff, we should be set to cover the inevitable fill ins for Alf and Bradley. While I'm not a huge fan of Gathright, he plays the part of the situational speedster that comes in handy. I'm not sure what hole Sheffield would fill.
I got nothin'.

Wow, Rick Porcello makes the Tigers rotation. He just turned 20 in December.

That's what happens when you have 3 SPs starting on the DL and another apparently becoming a RP. They're gonna suck and they're gonna lose so much money. We need to keep an eye on their roster and when they start shedding parts, we might want to get involved.

My thoughts exactly.
A herd of buffalo can move only as fast as the slowest buffalo. When the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.

In much the same way the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, we all know, kills brain cells, but naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers.

Oh, they currently only have 9 pitchers on their active roster and a 40 man sitting at 38 guys. They're gonna probably need to make some moves before the season even starts, actually.

I'd have to think they'd have some interest in Gaudin with Hendry shopping him.
The thing you need to remember is that all Cardinals fans and all White Sox fans are very bad people. It's a fact that has been scientifically proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. Being a Cubs fan is the only path to rightousness and piousness. Cardinal and White Sox fans exist to be the dark, diabolical forces that oppose us. They are the yin to our yang, the Joker to our Batman, the demon to our angel, the insurgence to our freedom, the oil to our water, the club to our baby seal. Their happiness occurs only in direct conflict with everything that is pure and good in this world.

Sheffield used to be a great player. His career numbers are actually HOF numbers.

Now, however, he's on the wrong side of 40, is a terrible defender, has lost major bat speed according to scouts, and is the most notorious "clubhouse cancer" guy in all of MLB.
Indeed, the main reason the Tigers released him was because they feared his wrath and all-out bitching if he was put in a part-time role.

As stunning as this may sound coming from me, I'd rather have Gathright.
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance
