Seems like guys are going for far cheaper now than they were at the start of the off-season.

A couple months ago we heard Abreu wanted 3/45, and now he has an offer for 1/8? Wow.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
And what's interesting is the pitchers are still going for normal price or close to it. I can't imagine Oliver Perez getting much more than 12 million bucks in other years for example.

Rotoworld disagrees

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->A fine deal for the Mets. In last year's market, Perez would have been in line for a five-year contract, possibly worth $70 million.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

That would be absolutely ridiculous. The guy's overpaid as it is. He looks like a top 10 pitcher in baseball for stretches but then disappears. You can't depend on him at all.

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->The Padres have been sold.

A California-based group led by Jeff Moorad has reached an agreement to buy the Padres from John Moores, the club announced this afternoon.

Under the terms of the agreement, the club said the sale is expected to close by Opening Day, with Moorad to assume the role of CEO of the Padres, a job currently held by Sandy Alderson.

Moorad and his group will initially purchase about one-third of the franchise, ultimately acquiring 100 percent ownership over a period of up to five years, subject to approval by Major League Baseball.

“Jeff Moorad will not only bring to the Padres his unique experience, passion for the game, and proven leadership, but an unparalleled commitment to the City of San Diego and its dedicated fans,” Moores said.

“I speak for our entire organization in saying that we look forward to working with Jeff to reach the ultimate goal of winning a World Series title for America's Finest City.”

Moores purchased the Padres for $84 million on Dec. 21, 1994, from a group led by Hollywood television producer Tom Werner.

It was not immediately known what Moorad's group will pay for the Padres, although the total is expected to top $400 million. That amount includes what the Padres owe on Petco Park.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

This reminds me. I don't know if it was mentioned before but Sean Casey recently announced his retirement and is joining the Network, too.

Sean Carey is retiring? Shit--I thought he was only 25 or so. Must have invested wisely.
I'm 100% fine with this. I'm just glad there's an actual plan in place that isn't, "Let's load up on retreads and hope we get lucky." I'm a little tired of that plan.

There's gold in them there calves.
This is not some silly theory that's unsupported and deserves being mocked by photos of Xena.  [Image: ITgoyeg.png]

He's 34 and still had something left on the tank; he hit .332 in 218 PA for the Red Sox in '08.

I don't know if he's gonna make more working for the Network than playing for a team, I guess so.

Sorry, dude. I was having some fun. I took your "Sean Casey" and purposely changed it to our own "Sean Carey", otherwise known as "Scarey"--who has massive calves as a result of his carrying around bags of gold in his second job as a leprechaun. Hope this helps.

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Rockies acquired outfielder Matt Murton from the Athletics for infielder Corey Wimberly.
The A's gave Murton all of 30 at-bats after picking him up in the Rich Harden deal last year and then kept him in the minors throughout August and September. He was never in their plans at all. A move to the Rockies gives him the possibility for a fresh start in a ballpark that is perfectly suited for someone with his gap power. Still, he won't be any kind of lock to make the team. Ian Stewart and Seth Smith are the favorites to start in left field<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
