Fun read regarding 19 yr old pitcher in Phillies system - Painter - and how, ex Cub and current Philly GM, Sam Fuld, influence on selecting him in draft and development.
He’s not likely to open in starting rotation out if camp. Likely to make rotation within a season or 2 based on his overall development since high school and make up. Phillies were well aware of Painter as he had a program with Kaplan, Phillies head of pitching development, since age 14. In addition, Painter played with Joe Girardi’s son, the Phillies manger till last season. https://theathletic.com/4227439/2023/02/...an-kaplan/ More on Painter who struck out Schwarber on his first meeting in BP and gave up a HR in his second https://www.mlb.com/news/andrew-painter-...llies-camp

Wow. A mid-market team outspending the Cubs. By a lot.

Cerami whining about it as per usual, another thing to get mad about that is out of the Cubs control. Be upset about the shit they can control.

Votto back on IL for shoulder. He will likely never be the Joey Bats guy again but seemed to be able to produce against the Cubs - granted 2 HRs were against Smyly

He's a character, and by all accounts a really good dude.

Really? I always got the impression he was a dick, but obviously I'm biased and also haven't followed him all that closely as a result.
