MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox)
ESPN’s Olney with some common sense recommendations on how to get 2020 season underway. He reviews some mistakes by owners and unions which developed the current lack of trust environment for MLB

His main points are: compromise and get the season underway quickly, learn from previous CBAs, and build bridges to develop the new CBA.

Yeah, right - best to expect logical behavior during emotional charged times. Agree with his suggestions but both parties have demonstrated that we shouldn’t expect the parties in dispute to act entirely rational.

Still guessing/hoping that there will be MLB in 2020 but not expect resolution anytime soon but will still be checking on MLB news a couple times a day in hopes for the MLB

Why even bother with a counter proposal?

Bobo is hearing that a decision will come down next week, deal or no deal.

That's exactly what's going to end up happening.

Followed by a grievance filing and nasty fight between MLB and MLBPA in the offseason.

But, but, but there's no money.

Hey, let’s play 48 games!

Appears that players are not accepting, nor countering, ownerships latest proposal so most likely 48 game season will commence

Manfred at least suggested to Karl Ravech during draft night that the intent was to play more than 50 games, so we'll see if he's not totally full of shit. Guessing it's something like 54 games, which still isn't close to ideal, but on top of that it's even more unfortunate that the expanded playoff negotiations got trashcanned along with the way. MLB should be ashamed, but they aren't.

So far the Sosa & McGwire doc on ESPN is pretty terrible.

I didn't watch it but nearly everything I've seen online has been negative. Sounds like a huge missed opportunity.

It was a 2 hour puff piece that felt like HR derby sprinkled in with boring interview segments. Asked zero tough questions and provided little to no commentary on how the game has suffered or evolved since the steroid era. Waste of time, and it didn't help that the director A.J. Schnack is a Cards fan who seems to have no idea why this project needed to be made in the first place.

I think I'm going to pass. It's a shame they fucked this up -- it could've been fascinating.

I had zero interest in watching it.

Recorded the special and plan to watch - as the 1998 summer was special at Wrigley.  It pales in comparison to 2016 but was fun being in the bleachers in June awaiting Sosa to hit another blast.

The documentary sucked and only reinforced that Sosa can stay away forever for all I care.

If you're down to hear Sammy bring up the subject of his own charisma, be sure to catch it.

This is not some silly theory that's unsupported and deserves being mocked by photos of Xena.  [Image: ITgoyeg.png]
