That's actually a really good deal for the Giants.

Framework of extension appears to have been agreed upon 10 years, $225 MM

Let's hope Rizzo pans out cuz we're out of the big name FA 1B for a few years. And with Cain signing and Hamels on the brink, we may be shit outta luck for the best SP too.
I got nothin'.

The free agency route to improving is getting a lot more expensive.

Unfortunately, the new CBA effectively hampers re-building through the draft and Theo's track record with FA signings is littered with high priced, under performers but hey it's opening week and the Cubs are still tied for the lead in the Central.

Locking up players to big extensions before they hit FA looks like its going to be happening more and more.

With some predictably, hilariously disastrous results.

Hi,

The second round pick last summer was a big kid out of Bishop Verot High School in Fort Myers. He is a first baseman and hits the ball a ton. He is young but he could also be coming down the line in a couple of years. I followed him because one of my children was the scorekeeper for the Bishop Verot baseball team for a couple years before we moved away. Some were surprised the Cubs drafted him so high because he was not particularly athletic, or so it was said. I did read an article about him in Phoenix, guess he is trimmed down and hitting the ball hard. It should be fun to see how well he does.

I would laugh if this outrageous contract Votto just accepted lands him back in social anxiety'ville.

Vogelbach? im excited to see what he does too. he's that interesting mix of raw size and strength matched with a good eye and better swing. his athleticism is the only question mark. it didnt stop prince's fat ass or that other guy...whats his name...oh yeah...Frank Thomas. Thomas was more muscle and not as overweight but same category nonetheless.

Hi,

Yes that is the guy. I tried to find his name and could not. Here is the link to the minor league teams:

If I were to guess, he would start in Mesa or Boise. I clicked on their rosters and they have not posted them yet. Be nice if he could move up to Peoria and play with Baez so we could see them both at the same time.

Then again, be nice to seem them both in Wrigley down the road too; that would be a refreshing change.

Andy just posted an article on the Cubs prospects. Looks like Vogelbach is staying in Arizona to start the year, along with Baez. It's up in the air if either will start the year in Boise or Peoria in June.
