I'd feel bad for him if he wasn't earning $12mil in 2012, and wasn't a giant festering sack of douche.

I don't know what they were thinking handing him that contract to begin with.

SI picked the Marlins to win the Wild Card this year. It kills me that they seem to put a World Series contender on the field once every decade or so. Especially for being such a small-market team.
They make the Cubs look like a bunch of ass clowns when they gut their team, only to get back to the WS in a few years. 1997, 2003, 2012(?)

Pineda out with shoulder soreness. Guess all the talking heads who were calling people irrational on twitter for worrying about his decreased velocity in ST were wrong...again.

If Angelo had picked McClellin, I would have been expecting to hear by training camp that kid has stage 4 cancer, is actually 5'2" 142 lbs, is a chick who played in a 7 - 0 defensive scheme who only rotated in on downs which were 3 and 34 yds + so is not expecting to play a down in the NFL until the sex change is complete and she puts on another 100 lbs. + but this is Emery's first pick so he'll get a pass with a bit of questioning. - 1060Ivy
Hi, I have written a manuscript looking for a publisher. As part of my research I spent a couple of hours with Dallas Green. How about this? He was hired by the Tribune who paid $20.5 million for the team. In three years he makes them $25 million profit, over 100% return on their invested capital, puts them in the playoffs, triples attendance and the TV ratings and convinces the City of Chicago they need to allow Wrigley to have lights. For that performance he was canned for "philosophical" reasons. Seems the Tribune wanted one of their own running the team they figured they could do better. Green says his 1984 playoff team peaked too early because Maddux and Palmiero were not ready yet. Actually the 1989 team that made the playoffs was his team, long after he and Goldsberry were gone. I think something like 13 players on their roster came throught he farm system he built, and Palmiero was gone by then. The Tribune destroyed what he built. I checked the Cubs top 20 draft picks the year Pujols was drafted. I think the entire bunch had less than 20 games played in the major leagues......combined. Note recently the Cubs mentioned they went from 90-120 people in their scouting and player development department.....that is a 33% increase just to catch up to their competition. One of the first things that Epstein did was hire two major league scouts........which the Cubs were the only team in MLB to have none. Seems Randy Bush was supposed to do it in his spare time. Now they have two scouts and two backup support in the office to help compile their data. Here is a link to the Tribune article: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/ct-spt-0322-bits-cubs-chicago--20120322,0,1856642.story Seems to me they are blasing their own company. At one of the spring training games some lefty hit a fly ball out to left field. Normally it would have gone for a double down the line and I looked up and Soriano was waiting for the ball and did not take two steps. I said to my wife, hmmmmm just maybe we do have some real major league scouts now. Bottom line is simple. All of what I have just written is a flat out indictment of the Tribune Company and how they milked the fans for 20+ years after they fired Dallas Green. When I dug into it, yes I got really upset. Check out this blog by Mark Cuban after he realized he was not going to be allowed to buy the team: http://blogmaverick....01/06/the-cubs/ Let me direct you to the portion in his blog about TV revenue and the Cubs and Sox being treated the same by the Tribune. What that means is, despite much better TV revenues, the Cubs and Sox got the same TV money. Now figure it out, the damn Tribune was subsidizing the Sox with TV money that rightfully belonged to the Cubs. I ran the numbers as best I could and it could easily have been up to 10% of the Sox payroll. We have been screwed for the last several years by the Tribune; Ricketts is nothing but a breath of fresh air at the moment. He is pouring tons of money into the team to fix the mess he bought. The prouduct on the field was the least of his problems, the organization was beyond a mess. regards, 5412

Giants make Matt Cain highest paid right hander - 5 year $112.5 MM extension.
Guess the Cubs won't have a shot at signing him in the offseason. http://espn.go.com/mlb/spring2012/story/...-matt-cain |
