MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox)
So it sounds like the expanded playoffs are on and the details are:
  • 8 teams per league
  • Top 2 teams in every division make playoffs
  • 7 & 8 seeds are the top 2 teams in the league that don't finish 1 or 2 in their division
  • Opening round will be best-of-3 with all 3 games played at the higher seed with no off-day

Fox's first game of the season is Cubs vs. Brewers on Saturday afternoon, so the first place they do that will probably be Wrigley.

That's going to look even weirder in broad daylight. Lots of translucent avatars in the stands.

The Marlins have had 12 players and 4 coaches test positive.  At minimum, their hope opener tonight is canceled.

In reality, the 2020 MLB season may be hanging by a thread.

Hey many fans complain that the season is too long anyway

The 96 hour season could have just solved that problem. Roster construction for the squads would have been significantly different

Would anyone even notice if the Marlins turned over 12 members of their roster and replaced them with minor leaguers? On a serious note, I don't know how MLB overcomes this.

Yankees-Phillies tonight has been cancelled (the Phillies played the Marlins yesterday)

This really shows how hard it is to contain the virus...

Especially when MLB isn't following other sports regarding the bubble thing.

I mean, the reality is a lot of it is for show.  Was commenting to my friend and my wife yesterday about how half assed the players wear masks...how they are still right on top of each other in the dugout.  None of it seems particularly safe.

Yeah, I wasn't get that at all. Players like Hayward wearing masks and others like Rizzo and Hoerner not?

Not a good look. I guess they couldn't make it mandatory for players to wear masks when in the dugout?

The players have to take some blame for this, the fact that they wouldn't accept doing this in a bubble plus the ones who aren't wearing masks--not to mention the ones who are going out to clubs. This has got to be pretty frustrating for the players who are taking this seriously.

More bullshit.
