MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox)
How Cardinals is this?

http://twitter.com/BestFansStLouis/statu...5715325953

To try to calm their fans, they put up this chart showing years in which they got off to a bad start and then next to it they show a great result FROM THE SEASON BEFORE THEY GOT OFF TO THE BAD START.

Out of the 4 years listed before this one (1988, 1997, 2001, 2007), they finished with a losing record in all but 2001.

This is not some silly theory that's unsupported and deserves being mocked by photos of Xena.  [Image: ITgoyeg.png]

Wow. Even I fell for it before reading your explanation. That's pretty damn funny.

Figures coming from a FOX rsn. That's quite the unholy alliance.

Here is the tweet that was sent to BFIB.  Listen to the audio for the incredible Cubs analysis

Some men are born mediocre, some men achieve mediocrity, and some men have mediocrity thrust upon them.

WTF?  That is REALLY bad!  So, basically, they collapsed after doing well and then pass it off as good news.

This was quite entertaining.

Is the audio "Into the bleachers for one maize/nice catch." ?

One of the many weird things in my Aristotelian becoming a Cub is my re-discovering Hawk. The only thing I knew here in my Eastern bubble was that he could never really replace Tony C. and he was recognizable and conspicuously helpful to me and my Old Town Team in the 60's. Oh, how the mighty-in-my-mind have fallen.

This phrase intrigues me to no end.  Are you saying that you've gone from a theoretical Cubs fan to a practical one?  Or is it more like recognizing the same universal Cub fandom-ness in your own various instance of Cub fandom?

Hah!

I failed Philosophy of Science when I was an undergrad. So, no expert in philosophy, I am way out of my league here.

I am bad also with either/or. (I am paranoid of false ones, therefore I see them everywhere, even when there are none.) Forcing myself to choose here, I choose your first potential answer, Brick. Choice is important. And although "practical" may be a term of art, I feel nothing practical about our fanaticism. As a layman I would choose the word "actual."

My choice of the modifier "Aristotelian" was meant to communicate the fact that the current state of being is of a higher order than the previous. A "theoretical Cubs fan" yes. They all are. But my former state of being was only formative; choosing to change, trans-formative. So, what "intrigues me to no end" is the process, the willful act, the transcending itself.

At least I remain confident that the word "becoming" says what I mean.

Looks good on me, too.

In case you missed Ace and the rest of Cubs Twitter swooning over it, Starlin has reached 1,000 career hits.

I'll never understand the love.

If a player isn't on the Cubs, I have no interest in how they are doing.

While 1,000 hits for a 26 year old is fairly good, the stat is useless. I do like the fact that Castro is off to a great start as a Yankee.

I want him to succeed. You come in as a new guy as a Yankee and are terrible? You'll never hear the end of it. And we have seen how that shit gets into his head.
