MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox)
Of course, I didn't see the interview, but is it possible he was referring to post-career (which, granted, would be closer to 30 years)?

Speaking of the Rangers game, this was more like a weird dropkick than a slide...

This is not some silly theory that's unsupported and deserves being mocked by photos of Xena.  [Image: ITgoyeg.png]

Scherzer just threw a no-no against the Mets.

17 Ks.

The Mets (Harvey started) struck out 18.

35 total strike outs in a 9-inning game blows away the previous records:

Most Ks in a 9-Inning Game, Both Teams:

AL 31 Texas (18) vs Seattle (13)  07-13-1997

NL  30 Houston (20) vs Chicago (10) 06-06-1998

Most Ks in a nine inning game?

Scherzer's game score for that game: 104. Second only to Woody's 105.

Previous record for combined K by both teams in a nine inning game was 31, I think.

Astros are winning, if they hold on tonight, a Rangers loss to the Angels tomorrow would mean there will be a Game 163 on Monday.  That result combined with the Astros winning, would mean it would be Rangers vs. Astros for the AL West with the loser as a WC.  That result combined with the Astros losing, would mean it would be Angels vs. Astros for the 2nd WC.

There's also the potential for a very strange outcome if it's Rangers/Astros in a Game 163.  They would be tied going into that game with records of 87-75.  That would also be the Yankees' record if they lose tomorrow.  If the Rangers beat the Astros in Game 163, then it would be Yankees vs. Astros in the WC Game.  That game would be played in Houston, even though the Yankees' 87-75 record would be better than the Astros' 87-76 record.  While tiebreaker games are considered regular season games, they do not count for seeding purposes.  So the Astros would be seeded as an 87-75 team, and they hold the tiebreaker with the Yankees.  But there is a possible path to a game where the WC1 team's record is worse than the WC2 team's record.

Correction, both Rangers & Astros hold tiebreaker over Yankees.  So Rangers loss, Yankees loss, & Astros win tomorrow, means that AL WC1 would be 87-76 (either HOU or TEX) & AL WC2 would be 87-75 (NYY).
