MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox)
His free agency will be pretty cool to follow. Nobody can blow anybody away with a huge offer, money almost wont play a role.

Now, if anybody's kind enough to explain why the Cubs won't be blocked from signing him after all, that'd be great. If not, I'll still be happy to stay with just the fact.

So I wonder, will the Cubs have an edge if he wants to play in the NL and continue to take ABs?  I find it hard to believe, as Brett suggests, that the AL teams would not only use him as a starting pitcher but also as a DH.

The Cubs are capped at a $300,000 signing bonus. The Yankees and Red Sox are not. Sadly, Otani to the Cubs (or Dodgers or Astros) ain't happening.

Correct, but all teams are capped now on signings from Japan. With some finagling and acquiring of bonus pool $$, it's not inconceivable that he could end up here. I wouldn't bet on it happening, but also wouldn't rule it out.

I'd certainly bet on Theo and Jed finding a way.

Or maybe I've just elevated them to God status at this point.

How the hell does a team win 21 straight games? Pretty amazing.

Yeah, I don't hold any grudge toward Cleveland. If they won game 7, then by all means -- fuck Cleveland. But I actually wouldn't mind seeing them win it all if the Cubs don't make the WS...

Remember when you would have been sad if another team broke a long drought before us?  21 in a row is seriously insane.

I remember it well. I thought Cleveland would end their drought before we did, for sure. And I was well-prepared to hate them in the appropriate manner.

And, yes...21 in a row is bonkers. Doesn't even seem like it should be possible.

And by "you" I mean all of us collectively.  Gee, another year where someone else got there first..

Yeah.

As frustrated as I still get when the team isn't playing well, it's really nice to have all of that stuff washed away.

It's probably because the one Cleveland fan I know from my neck of the woods, couldn't name 5 guys on the team.  But he's sure to let me know how many wins they have in a row.

Oh and they're not the Cubs.

I got nothin'.

Cleveland is on an amazing run but Cubs aren't playing them for some time so I'll worry about Mets, Cards, Brewers, etc.
