Hendry signed by Yankees as speacial assistant to GM Cashman.

Appears that Hendry is still well thought of in most baseball circles but he couldn't get it done when the Cubs acted as misers nor when they spent like drunken sailors. Have fun with the Yankees. Overall, I don't think Hendry was a bad GM - he made some good trades and some terrible free agent signings - but it was time for Jim and the Cubs to depart.

When we see Yankees giving out NTC like candy on all their deals, I'll believe that Jim is making a mark on their organization.

Hendry's impact will be obvious, because the only guys with full or limited NTCs on the Yankees right now are Kuroda. And Rodriguez. And Sabathia. And Texiera. And Burnett. And Jeter. And Rivera. And Swisher.

Or essentially every single major free agent the Yankees have signed (or re-signed) with the exception of Granderson, who signed his contract 5 years ago when he was only arbitration eligible.

Not a defense of Hendry. I just wish people would stop acting as if giving out a no trade clause was somehow unique to his tenure. It wasn't.

You can let him go now. We have a new front office.
If Angelo had picked McClellin, I would have been expecting to hear by training camp that kid has stage 4 cancer, is actually 5'2" 142 lbs, is a chick who played in a 7 - 0 defensive scheme who only rotated in on downs which were 3 and 34 yds + so is not expecting to play a down in the NFL until the sex change is complete and she puts on another 100 lbs. + but this is Emery's first pick so he'll get a pass with a bit of questioning. - 1060Ivy

That's my point though. It was never about defending Hendry, or defending the Cubs front office. It was about correcting misperceptions.

You're right. Hendry did love him some no-trade clauses.

The Yanks are trying to dump Burnett onto the Pirates and are willing to pay most of his salary. I think he'll suck regardless of where he pitches.

Baltimore and Mets may also be in picture but it appears that Yanks would receive very little salary relief.

Burnett could use a change of scenery but I can't see Yanks or any other team dumping over $10 MM just for the roster spot if there's a decent chance the player can provide average production. With AJ having something like $33 MM left on his contract, it may cost as much as $30 MM for the Yanks to clear off his roster spot.

I've read that they wanted to clear $5-8 mil in payroll to make room for a DH, but teams are still a few million $s apart..

Rumor says that Yankees will only pay "considerable" portion of Burnett's salary if they'll receive prospect(s) in return. Teams supposedly balking at Yanks only paying $22 MM of the remaining $33 MM on AJ's deal.

Matt Moore extension by the Rays is a smart move.

Fuk mania has now spread to the South Side. That's a pretty good deal actually.

Beyond the hype and salary, Fuk was a decent player who I can now heap loads of insults and crap at now that he maybe on the southside squad.

At that salary, even pissed off Cub fans wouldn't be too pissed off to see his helicopter swinging K again. It might be nice to see that strike out swing on the southside as part of their rebuilding effort. Can someone tell KW that rebuilding efforts usually don't include 35 year old, corner outfielders without power.

Yeah, I'm aware that Cubs are looking at re-signing 38 yr old Ramon Ortiz but that's different - It's the Cubs.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Fuk as their new leadoff hitter replacing Juanie.

I never understood the Fukudome hate. He was one of our most fundamentally sound players.

A lot of people have trouble separating their hatred of a contract from hatred of a palyer.
