$1.5M with incentives of $5.3M seems a bit much for a bat boy.

More info on the Brewers and Hoffman:

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Hoffman has "mutual interest"
By Tom Haudricourt of the Journal Sentinel
Jan. 6, 2009 12:39 p.m.

I just got off the phone with Rick Thurman, the lead agent for free agent closer Trevor Hoffman. Thurman assured me that Hoffman has "mutual interest" in the Brewers, who have targeted the all-time saves leader as their top choice to fill their vacant closer's role.

Thurman and Hoffman apparently have been doing their due diligence on the Brewers, talking to folks in the organization to gauge the atmosphere, plans for 2009, etc. Hoffman went as far as talking to new manager Ken Macha.

This is not to say the Brewers are a lock to get Hoffman. Thurman said he is talking to other teams who are interested in the 41-year-old changeup specialist.

I also got the impression that Hoffman might be looking for a two-year deal. I'm not sure if the Brewers are willing to do that, considering Hoffman's age, but he doesn't put the strain on his arm that other pitchers might because he throws changeups more often than not.

Thurman confirmed what general manager Doug Melvin told me earlier today, that the sides discussed parameters of a deal yesterday. That's almost always the precursor to an actual offer, which the Brewers might make before the day is over.

"They definitely have interest and so does Trevor," said Thurman. "It's a possibility (to get a deal done)."<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I actually thought they might go after a high talent pitcher that's not long for free agency. What kind of guys besides Grienke are out there?

Not sure. Sheets crossed my mind too but I can't see them signing him with Harden already on board. I don't know if the Giants would trade Cain.

Looking around, I saw that Erik Bedard and Justin Duchsherer were going to be free agents next year. I'm not thrilled about Bedard cause I've heard he's a grade A douchebag, and didn't Duchsherer come down with a significant injury last year?

Did someone sign Derrick Lowe? Is he out of our price range?

I love that they can refer to Andruw Jones as the "overweight center fielder" and no one bats an eye.

If you read Fella's blog on the A's, you'd know. They hope he's back for opening day.

Lowe laughed off the Mets' 3/36 offer... can't see us possibly having a chance. Pettite also declined the Yanks' 1/10 offer.

Does anyone have any info on what makes Bedard a douche? I'm just curious, because I had never heard of anything when we talked about him before he went to Seattle. He was incredibly good in the AL east for multiple years.

He wouldn't ever go over 100 pitches, seemed like a pussy and their general manager trashed Bedard right after he was fired. Turned out Bedard had some shoulder issues though and had surgery.

The Giants apparently can't afford Manny. Looks like he'll be back with the Dodgers.

I saw somewhere that we thought Lowe was "overpriced".

Yeah, from what I hear he's a real primadonna and doesn't wanna go out of his way for his team. Not that I expect guys to throw their shoulder out pitching for a baseball team, but the guy would basically take himself out of games.

Also, I've heard he's pretty much isolated himself from the rest of the clubhouse in Seattle. He seems like he would wreck havoc in the clubhouse.
