That rotation undoubtedly sucks, but I have a feeling they'll add someone before ST. Anyway, from that list, Gallardo and Bush seem to do fairly well against us, and McClung seemed to have our number after he was moved into the pen late in the season. Suppan and Parra are embarrassments to their profession. All in all, I think they'll hold their own against us. I think we're much better, but the Brewers are still going to be a competitive team.

I wouldn't be surpised if Sheets returns to Milwaukee on a one year deal.

IIRC, the Cubs tend to hit Dave Bush really well every time they face him.

No question.
Last year, St. Louis had something like 28 blown saves (leads blown after their starter left the game). So they may end up being there to challenge. The Brewers could have their SP over achieve and their hitting come back. The Reds could finally have enough pitching to be ok.
Someone undoubtedly will play really well and challenge the Cubs.

I agree. I certainly know more than to assume the Cubs will run away with anything. But, I don't think the Brewers getting an old Trever Hoffman is going to change anything for their season.

Yeah, checking the numbers, you're right. Maybe he did better against us more recently.

I don't know. I have not heard one positive thing come out of Milwaukee about Sheets. The fans have really turned on him... almost everyone here has no issue if he leaves.
I had heard that he was looking for $15 mil a year. If that's true, it's a small wonder why no one wants him. Otherwise for 3/4 of a year, he's one of the best pitchers in baseball.
I got nothin'.

I see the Brewers signing of Hoffman as a good thing for us, kind of like them wasting $10 million on Gagne last year.
Hoffman is done. He throws in the mid-80's.

He's been throwing in the mid-80's for years and is still doing fine.

Who is going to get the ball to Hoffman consistently?

As it currently looks, the Brewers have the 4th best chance to top the Cubs in my opinion. CC carried them in the 2nd half, Sheets pitched well, Parra's record and ERA were a bit of luck when you look at the rest of his stats, and like HTC said, who is going to get them to the 9th inning? Gallardo's being asked to be the ace and carry the load, fine by me. Hopefully they ruin his arm. If they added another formidable starting pitcher and they find another good late inning reliever, things could change.
The Cards having a miracle run, or the Asstrolls playing the whole season like they do in the 2nd half is what could threaten the Cubs. Andy you brought up the Cards blown saves, but do we really think Ludwick, Lohse, and Wellemeyer repeat those performances? Maybe they do but I certainly wouldn't predict it. They'll at least be average though and likely hang in until August simply because they have one of the best hitters of all-time in his prime. The Astros lost Wigginton and will only cut salary, not add players the rest of the offseason.
The bottom of the division could get better with the Reds improving, but there shouldn't be anybody that can compete with the Cubs, if the Cubs play anything like they're capable of. Now we know we're talking about the Cubs, so you never know. This isn't at all praising the Cubs, it's really an awful division.

Of course, this all assumes the Cubs play up to their ability. I would be hard pressed to find anyone that thinks 'on paper' the Cubs aren't a very good team. Unfortunately, that rarely seems to matter. The Cubs in 2004, were a top notch team also. I'm not saying that I don't believe the Cubs should win the division, I'm just saying that there's always the chance they fuck it up.

I went up to Milwaukee for that last Cubs-Brewers series this past summer, and that's exactly what I thought. They are stuck in a 1980's timewarp.
And the funniest thing is how they really think they are better than Chicago and all people from Illinois. They love throwing around the term FIB or whatever the hell it is (Fuckin Illinois Bastard), but it was SO sweet being there for the sweep and being able to talk major shit. They were PISSED

What sweep? The Brewers took 2 of 3 in Milwaukee to end the regular season.
