MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox)
Looks like his contract expires after this season and then he is arb. Eligible for 2016, FA IN 2017. Only 25 years old, it would cost a lot I get him. i would think that you would have to start a package with at least two of Almora, Edwards, Schwarber, and Russell.

But, we would have two full years to negotiate a new contract with him and he is cheap this year at just over 7 million.

I would prefer to just sign one of Price or Zimmermann next offseason. I think Strasburg would cost 1/2 the farm system.

That injury history concerns me too.  I have a feeling he's never going to stay healthy.

That too. I keep thinking he's the new Prior.

He's averaged 30 starts a year for the last three years.

I wonder if the Nats would look to move Fister?

They would need to move someone. I keep forgetting that Roark was in their rotation and pretty good as well. I couldn't see them parting with anyone aside from Fister/Zimmermann given they control their other starters beyond 2015.

I suppose its just in my head then.  He still scares me.  Feels like a constant injury waiting to happen.  He's already had a TJS, right?

Yes, missed most of 2011. And his 30 starts per season are a bit misleading. 2014 was his first season above 200 innings. They've really never pushed him to the limit until now. Still worries me.

Sounds like Scherzer to the Nats is a done deal. Fuck off St Louis.

Quote:The Nationals have agreed to sign top starting pitcher Max Scherzer to a seven-year deal, CBS Sports Jon Heyman tweets. Scherzer is represented by Scott Boras. On Sunday, CBS Heyman reported that the Nationals and another team were talking with Boras about seven-year deals for Scherzer, with the Washington Posts Adam Kilgore later reporting that the two sides were close to a deal.

7 years/$180 mil+ is the early word on the contract. Sherman also says the Nats plan to keep the rotation in tact. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a bridge to sell.

The Nats would be stupid to not trade one of Fister or Zimmerman.  Honestly, I wouldn't mind having Fister as our 3rd or 4th starter.  I would have to assume he is going to come much cheaper than Zimmerman.

If true that $105 million of this deal is backloaded (after the 7 years are over), this is truly insane.

Everything about that deal is nuts.  7/210 is nuts.  Paying $15 million a year for 7 years after the contract is over is certifiably insane.

This is not some silly theory that's unsupported and deserves being mocked by photos of Xena.  [Image: ITgoyeg.png]
