This offseason is nuts.

The Padres have had discussions about trading for Cole Hamels with newly acquired Wil Myers part of the package, reports Ryan Lawrence of the Philadelphia Daily News. The Padres only finalized the trade for Myers on Friday.

I'm guessing Kang will suck.

The Pirates have won the bidding for Korean infielder Jung-ho Kang, tweets Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. The amount of the winning bid has yet to be reported, but Kangs former club, the Nexen Heroes of the Korea Baseball Organization, will reportedly accept the bid.


Kang, 28 in April, put together an exceptional season in Korea in 2014, .356/.459/.739 with 40 home runs in 117 games between the regular season and the playoffs. Kangs Heroes reached the Korea Series (KBOs Championship series) but fell to the Samsung Lions four games to two.

Not quite sure what our FO is looking for in the OF beyond an aging, declining Gomes. Smith probably isn't much better than Ruggiano though in a platoon.

I agree, Rok. All of the FAs are not difference makers. No need to sign the best of a shitty class if the best is still bad. I predict we'll either trade for a quality OFer or just begin the season with the Soler, Coghlan, Alcantara trio. Hell, Bryant may end up in LF and there's no reason to sign a stiff to block him. If you can find a difference maker than I'm all of it. Seth Smith... no thanks.

Bryant probably is the best OF option at the moment for us. Zobrist would be nice but I wouldn't part with much for him.
