MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox)
God, the prospect of him with his hopes up is just delicious.

I really don't want hawk to ever retire. Anyone other than him would be an improvement and I don't want sox fans to think they can have anything nice.

Raving old lunatic is the announcer they deserve.
Some men are born mediocre, some men achieve mediocrity, and some men have mediocrity thrust upon them.

Padres acquire Myers. Nats get a couple of prospects in Ross and Turner. Rays save some cash reload on number of fringey player/prospects. 11 players and 3 teams involved in the deal.

Ace does a nice job of stating the deal clearly:

Still hoping that the Rays make Zobrist available after this deal. Would love him to be reunited with Maddon here.

I like this deal for the Nats.

Quote:Right? I heard on MLBN over the weekend that Hawk Harrelson is so excited by all these moves that he's decided to change his mind on partially retiring in 2015. He's going to be in rare form all year if things don't go according to plan.

Every year he says that this is the best Sox team he's ever seen. This year will be no exception.
I wish that I believed in Fate. I wish I didn't sleep so late. I used to be carried in the arms of cheerleaders.

Volquez with a 2 year deal with the Royals for $20 MM.

For some reason, I consider him tough against the Cubs so I'm glad that he's finally out of the NL Central.

Just looked it up and noticed that he had a 0.56 ERA against the Cubs last year in 2 starts but a 4.03 ERA in 4 starts over the last few years.

Still happy he's out of the NL Central.

Where did the Padres come from? Preller isn't fucking around.

Kemp deal is all but done with the original deal still in effect. Padres asked for more money but the Dodgers said no way Jose.

Padres also traded for Norris from the A's. They are really going for it next year.

The Padres and Athletics have continued their busy offseasons with a multiplayer deal that will send catcher Derek Norris to San Diego, Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News reports (Twitter links). The full trade is Norris, right-hander Seth Streich and an international signing slot to the Padres with right-handers Jesse Hahn and R.J. Alvarezgoing to Oakland, Yahoo Sports’ Jeff Passan reports.

Norris, 25, hit .270/.361/.403 with 10 homers in 442 plate appearances with the A’s last season, earning his first All-Star appearance in the process. The right-handed hitting Norris did much of his damage against lefty pitching (.863 OPS vs. LHP, .699 OPS vs. RHP) and in the first half of the season, as he hit only .240/.324/.335 after the All-Star break. Norris is still a year away from arbitration eligibility and he’s under team control through the 2018 season.

Would have liked to trade for Norris instead of Montero. Couldn't we have matched that deal?

Norris is right handed though. No reason to have two right handed catchers. Our lineup needed a lefty bat.

And Norris is mediocre at best against RH pitching iirc.

So now reports have Upton going to SD too. How are they able to swing all these deals for 3 OFs?

And I hate the Padres.

I'm trying to figure out how they're gonna defend their enormous outfield.
