MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox)
Also Jake Penis re-signs with the Giants. Thank goodness.

I was holding on to hope that we could swing something for Upton

Yeah, but that seems like a lot for just one year of him though (one of Hedges, Renfroe or Wisler).

Ok, now Heyman reporting none of those 3 are involved, just Fried and some others.

Well, shit.

Looks like the Padres are all in.

So what's with the Padres, Dodgers and Red Sox oversupply of OFs? Am I missing the greater point? I get that the FA OF picture is terrible, but can all these guys be dealt for much of a return?

And now the Padres are sending Hanigan (just acquired in the Myers trade) to the Red Sox for Middlebrooks.

Okay....

This off season has been a blast, I must say. Maybe the Padres are going to try a new defensive tactic? 5 in the OF?

Signature.

Ross to the Padres. Thank goodness.

All this Padres stuff is insane.

Now saying the Ross to Padres deal isn't done. May still sign here. I don't want this.

Quote:Quietly, behind the scenes the Mets and Rockies have been talking about a blockbuster trade that would bring All-star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki to New York according to Jon Heyman. Top pitching prospect Noah Syndergaard would be the centerpiece of the deal, which would also likely include a few other high-level Mets prospects. The talks are thought to be in the early stages, as the two teams have been exchanging names in a possible deal for weeks now. While there has been progress throughout the winter, the financial part of the transaction and Tulowitzkis health are factoring heavily into the negotiations. The deal is probably still a longshot to get done

I guess this means Valbuena isn't going to SF anytime soon.

Quote:The Marlins and Giants are closing in on a deal that would send third baseman Casey McGehee to San Francisco, Juan C. Rodriguez of the Sun-Sentinel reports on Twitter. Minor league pitching would likely head back to Miami in the deal.

I'm okay with that. Valbuena is a good player to have.

I wish we weren't on Upton's no trade list. We could have easily matched what Padres gave up for him and still have the best farm system in the league.
