MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox)
Jose Abreu was activated off the DL today... and was just hit by an overthrown ball during Dodgers BP, went to the clubhouse.

Gee, I sure hope he's ok...I mean, in that he's able to lead a fulfilling and productive life...you know...collecting the shopping carts and bringing them back in from the parking lot...and being allowed to walk to work from assisted living all by himself...eventually.

Then ended up hitting a 2run HR.  This guy can't possibly be this good, can he?

I mean, two years ago people were suggesting he may be the best hitter on the planet. I don't think anyone expected to hit big-league pitching this well so soon but everyone knew he'd mash at some point. The problem is he can't play defense to save his life so his value will always be limited to the offensive side so he may never be better than a 3.0-4.0 WAR player or so.

I guess we'll see.  It's still early yet.  Will be interesting to see if he can mash MLB pitching for a full season.

Sorry Clapp, but Hawk says he's an awesome defender at first. And Stone, who knows EVERYTHING, didn't disagree. So clearly he's great
I wish that I believed in Fate. I wish I didn't sleep so late. I used to be carried in the arms of cheerleaders.

Haha. I see he has 3 errors in just 35 games at 1B (DH 9 games), and has a -0.5 DWAR (even if you question how reliable defensive WAR is, that's alarmingly bad in so few games).

No doubt. I don't know if I'll keep up a .900+ OPS anyway.

So apparently a fan fell from the stands onto the warning track in Milwaukee and is being stretchered off.

This is not some silly theory that's unsupported and deserves being mocked by photos of Xena.  [Image: ITgoyeg.png]

An inebriated Mike Hunt? (I know, too soon)

Make that he apparently fell into the Brewers bullpen from the restaurant above it in the stands.

Yikes, that's no good.

Abreu homered yesterday after returning from the DL. And homered again tonight.

Signature.

Gregory Polanco reportedly getting the promotion Friday for the Pirates. Just another stud young outfielder joining an NL Central rival (and in the same outfield as McCutchen). Polanco is a pure hitter with a pretty left-handed swing and he's a big dude (6'4", 220) that could add some more power.

Pirates officials are now denying the reports that Polanco is coming up Friday... so who knows
