I'm all for one in the ribs. There wasn't shit wrong with that tag and the way Machado was already throwing his helmet on his way to the ground suggests to me that there's some history here. He was looking for any excuse for that confrontation.

Sounds as though he is amenable to being sent down and working on some things. Does he have options left?

If he's DFA'd and clears waivers, the options don't come into play.  The effect of being out of options is that you have to clear waivers in order to be sent down.  Given that he's owed $12M next season, he very well may clear waivers though.
