Guess that Keith Law from ESPN Insider agrees with you:

Keith Law
Really, Brian Sabean?
<i>"The San Francisco Giants made the worst mistake a GM can make after winning the World Series -- they're overpaying one of the guys who got them there, just because he got them there. After pulling a left-for-dead Huff off the scrap pile last offseason and getting far more than they paid for from him in 2010, the Giants re-upped Huff for two years and a vesting option at more than twice the annual salary they gave him on the just-expired one-year deal. I've outlined many times why I think Huff's 2010 season was a fluke, from the fact that he's 33 to his regression in the final two months (plus October) to his history of bad defense at several positions, and paying him more than he's likely to be worth just ten months after nobody wanted the guy makes little sense. It's worse when you consider that San Francisco's best prospect, Brandon Belt, is a first baseman who finished the year in AAA and was the best everyday player in the Arizona Fall League. There's every indication that he'll be ready for a major league role by midyear. The Giants have to put one of these two in left field, unless they intend to use Belt as trade bait for something else, but the ideal move was to let Huff walk if he wanted more than a year, given his age and the big performance risk in giving him a multi-year deal."</i>

Anybody know much about Brandon Belt?

I think he'll hold up in the big leagues. What what I understand he has a few holes in his swing and tends to hit a lot of looping base hits. This last year in AAA he's really come together and locked himself in although he can come undone at any time especially when he's about to shit the bed.

Can he play second base?
I hate my pretentious sounding username too.

I wonder how much value he has to the Yankees off the field. Certainly it's not that much.

That's a good deal for them as he's a good fit for that ballpark.

That said, I'm glad we didn't sign him.

200 innings with an era of 4 for $5 MM is a bargain
Lilly and Garland gives the Dodgers solid 3,4 starters

I would think not. Seems kind of like a dick move. Not only is he coming into the downside of his career, but he has plenty of money. Kind of shady.

An ERA of 4 is probably his ceiling at Wrigley. It's a good deal for the Dodgers, but they can have him. We have enough #3/4 starters.

Rockies signing Tulowitzki to a 7-year, $130 million deal, and De La Rosa(who the Cubs were rumored to have interest in) to a 3-year, $30 million deal.

That Tulo deal surprises me - I know he's a stud, and still young, and the face of the franchise, and all that... but after Todd Helton and Mike Hampton, you'd think the Rockies would know that these kind of uber-long, uber-expensive deals almost never wind up ending well.

Tulo is a great player until he gets a nagging injury. That's a pretty long term deal, but if you want him to stay in Colorado you would have to give him that. Pitchers coming out of Colorado are always going to scare me, especially if you give them $10 mil a year.

But I think the Rockies could have offered the same deal next year, and Tulo would have taken it. I don't see the urgency of locking him up if he is already under contract until 2014.
