Marshall and Fontenot
#1
So I keep reading that they are not going to be traded, and the Cubs haven't even considered trading them. That raises two questions in my mind:

1.) Is that just puffery? After all, these guys are technically spare parts at the moment. I love both of them, but they're spare parts.

2.) Would you guys hold onto them no matter what?

Like I said, I think they're hugely valuable, but if they are a necessary part of a deal for Peavy or a bat, it has to be done.

This has to be positioning. I can't imagine either of those guys being untouchable. I think they are both important role players for the team, but if we can get something in return for them that will have a bigger impact on the team, then I'm sure we'd do it.

Yep, what he said. Marshall is a tweener. A lefty out of the pen that can fill in as a starter if needed. Fontenot is a utility guy that can only really play 2B.
I got nothin'.

Don't get me wrong, both have "roles" on the team and they can both be important contributors, but they aren't impact players and if we can get one for them, then we'll do it.

I love Marshall (he signed my son's ball, damnit) and Fontenot, but to say they are untouchable is ridiculous.

No, no, no, Fontenot is one of the best fielding 2B out there, Scarey and KB say so.
