<{POST_SNAPBACK}><!--quotec-->Clapp as long as he keeps his obp aroung .390 he will be fine. I am just worried about why people are not grooving pitches to a singles hitter that is always looking to go the other way. Last year was the highest obp he has ever put up as a professional as well.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Yeah I gotcha. But for his walks, there was a reason for the increase. He talked all season about how he knew his job was to just get in base for our boppers. He focused more on just doing whatever to get on base. After the success he had, I doubt he changes that approach.
You're right though, teams might as well just give him something to hit if he's only hitting singles, great point.
And one thing that I could never understand was why more teams didn't put a shift on him. Brenly mentioned that quite a bit too. Maybe more teams will do that this year.

I'm not sure that's a great idea because he can always drop a bunt down and make it to first with his slightly better then average speed.
The thing I don't get with him is why people don't pitch him inside. Maybe I don't remember and he did get pitches inside that he would fight off, but it seemed like all season long Theriot would get pitched outside and every time he would just lay it off into right field.
I'm not concerned about Theriot's bat in this lineup. He gets on base and that's what we need. I'm still worried about him defensively though. He has to be 100% perfect on everything he does in about half of the chances he gets at shortstop. I think he's handled things well so far, but to expect that is tough.
As Savant has mentioned, I think Lopez would be a nice player to bring in if Cedeno is traded. But, I would actually rather see an A+ glove added that can be slotted for late inning substitution at SS because of Theriot's defensive short comings.

You make a good point about him being able to bunt then. Still, they could play the shortstop more up the middle and move the 2nd baseman closer to 1st. It seems most of his hits were right between the 1st and 2nd baseman.
