Old Boy

i know a lot of you guy enjoyed this movie (as did i) so you may be interested to know that there is an american remake coming this year. it's to be directed by steven spielberg and to star will smith. heres the curious part: the octopus scene and the incest are not going to be included in the remake. i'm not sure what to think about that.

I've hated the idea ever since I first heard about it. It just won't have the same look and feel to it, and Spielberg should stick to his own or American based material.

I've had more than enough of Will Smith already.

i can't think of one great will smith movie. "independence day"? it was okay. "enemy of the state"? it was decent. "men in black"? terrible. i never saw "ali" so i'll just assume he was good in it. "pursuit of happyness"? nope. "six degrees of seperation"? gay. what am i missing?

Will Smith is the black man that white people can all agree on and feel comfortable with. That's money in the bank.

Will Smith has been in a decent amount of good movies. To say MIB is "terrible" is just wrong.

I'm not saying Will Smith is a good actor, but I liked "Enemy of the State" "MIB" and "Pursuit of Happyness."

I thought he was good in The Legend of Bagger Vance.

What about "I Am Legend"? I've never seen it but people say it's good.

It's OK.

***SPOILER***

There are actually two scenes in the film that shows Will Smith has some acting chops.

- One is when he is singing a Bob Marley song to his dog (basically his only friend) right before it turns into a zombie/vampire dog and he has to kill her. His emotion was believable -- at least I bought it.

- The other is not too long afterwards. He goes into a video store where he has windowfront dummies set up that he talks to so he feels less lonely. He has an exchange with one of the lady dummies (sounds weird, I know) where he is basically pleading for her to respond to him.

***END SPOILER***

I never said he's a bad actor. I actually think he's pretty good. I'm just sick of him. He's totally overexposed and I don't think he chooses his roles very well. Let me put it another way -- I think he chooses them based on how big of a blockbuster it might be -- not based on the quality of the script.

I Am Legend was good but the CG almost ruined it for me. The book is great though, and I like the original version, Last Man On Earth, with Vincent Price.

I doubt he thought "The Pursuit of Happyness" was going to be a blockbuster. Or "7 Pounds" and howis he overexposed? He only does one movie a year except last year, he did 2! It is not like pulled a Jude Law by doing 6 movies in one year.

Am I the only one who didn't like Independence Day? Besides the alien ships blowing up historic buildings, I thought it was pretty much shit.
