The likelyhood of Peavy

I meant he needs to keep it pending so as he doesn't pitch and then decide to not go.

Honestly, we need to upgrade the offense somewhere. I'd hate to waste all of our trade chips and take on salary that would prevent us from making a better move.

I'm just not sure what that move might be.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

We need to either dump Lee and go after Gonzalez, or pick up someone who can play 2nd and 3rd everyday with good power.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I'm on board. I don't see the Lee/Gonzalez thing happening -- Hendry will never, ever eat that much salary, especially now. Who is the player who can play 2nd and 3rd and hit for power? If that person is out there, sign me up.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
There's nobody out there that is better than what we have. We're not going to acquire a 2nd/3rd baseman. We're not going to acquire a 1b either. People need to face reality. The only way we're acquiring a legtimate offensive bat is if somebody goes down with a season-ending type injury, and that's the only way it should be the case. The knee jerk reactions continue to crack me up.

Soto? I don't think I'd go there, but everything else yes.

For Gonzalez, I'd trade Soto in a second. If we ended up with A. Gonz I have a feeling we'd be losing Vitters. So maybe Vitters, Shark, Hoff and Fox.

There's no way in hell you get rid of an All-Star 26-year-old catcher who can hit, catch, and manage a pitching staff like he can. It's the most difficult position in baseball to find an all-around player like Soto. We'd been looking for one for years.

I assume you aren't including this season or all the ones prior to 2007. I'm not convinced that Soto is the the player of 07 and 08. Plus, don't we have a top performing catcher in AAA, maybe it's AA?

He's had one bad month. He's hitting in May like he did last year.

And I highly doubt we have a catcher in the minors ready to replace him. People incredibly undervalue how important he is to our team. Even when he's not hitting, he handles the pitching staff very well and is our manager out on the field. He's probably the last guy I'd trade on this team.

It's probably a lot easier to replace a 1B than it is to replace a catcher who can hit and manage a pitching staff.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have Gonzalez, but it ain't happening. Plus, if we add players, I'd rather we kept the good ones that are actually contributing to the major league team. Prospects are another story. I'm not giving up on Soto, not yet.

As for that rumored White Sox-Peavy deal... I don't really see that putting them over the top in that division by any means. He'll pretty much replace Floyd's production from last year, but Danks is struggling, and the team has lots of holes. Maybe they still win that division, but I don't think it will be because of Peavy.

I agree he's very valuable and difficult to replace, but for Gonzalez I'd send him away without a second thought.

In other news - the Sox are down 20-0 in the 7th inning.
