The likelyhood of Peavy

Honestly, we need to upgrade the offense somewhere. I'd hate to waste all of our trade chips and take on salary that would prevent us from making a better move.

I'm just not sure what that move might be.

We need to either dump Lee and go after Gonzalez, or pick up someone who can play 2nd and 3rd everyday with good power.

I'm on board. I don't see the Lee/Gonzalez thing happening -- Hendry will never, ever eat that much salary, especially now. Who is the player who can play 2nd and 3rd and hit for power? If that person is out there, sign me up.

The Hoff, Fox, Soto and Shark for Gonzalez. I'd do that in a second. Lee can be a backup for all I care. If we traded him to SD we'd have to pay his entire salary anyway.

For Gonzalez, I'd trade Soto in a second. If we ended up with A. Gonz I have a feeling we'd be losing Vitters. So maybe Vitters, Shark, Hoff and Fox.

It would have to be: Vitters, Shark, Hoff, Wells/Marshall or something like that. It would be more then for Peavy (or it should be)

We aren't getting Adrian Gonzalez. We don't have the trade chips and we aren't dumping Lee. Gonzalez is probably the second best 1B in the league -- it will take a ton to get him.

I would love to get in on the Gonzalez talks, btw.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I don't think he's going to approve it, personally. He clearly wants to be in the NL and the White Sox will not be the only interested team.

I would be shocked if this happens...I'd be even more shocked if it does not involve Gordon Beckham as is being reported. Beckham is to the Sox as Vitters is to the Cubs - the prize "earned" by suffering through 2007 (Sox) and 2006 (Cubs). Both are top tier prospects in their age groups/leagues with the potential to anchor critical positions for years to come.

If Peavy goes, without costing a TOP prospect (Poreda is decent - but he is a two pitch pitcher and Clayton Richard seems like an OK back end guy, but he gets progressively and significantly worse when seeing a hitter a 2nd and 3rd time in a game), and he goes to the Sox, I'll be really really surprised.

The Cubs are not trading for Peavy. With the ownerships situation, they aren't going to take on 50 million in salary. Once that gets cleared up, maybe, but not right now.
I wish that I believed in Fate. I wish I didn't sleep so late. I used to be carried in the arms of cheerleaders.

A few of the Sox fans here at the office are walking around saying it's a done deal. I haven't heard anything definitive, but they say Linebrink talked to Peavy (not sure where they heard this), and confirmed it.

I smell BS.

Yep

If we want him, we better hope he stays on the block for while.

I'm not 100 percent sure, but I don't think the Sox can trade Beckham. I think picks are protected for up to a year after they sign. I suppose they might be able to put him in as PTBNL, but they couldn't get him until August or September.

It isn't a done deal, and it won't happen.

But I honestly wish it would. Peavy isn't going to save their season and it would be great if they unloaded their top prospects to get him.
